Job Summary:
University Health Services is seeking a Healthy Academic Environments Program Manager, a new role dedicated to supporting the UW-Madison teaching community. This position is situated within the Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Team at UHS and will work closely with the Division of Teaching and Learning to create conditions that support student mental health. The Healthy Academic Environments Program Manager will engage UW-Madison's teaching and learning community and academic partners in order to integrate prevention focused strategies across academic environments.
This role will provide support and build capacity by:
- Delivering, evaluating, and improving prevention and mental health promotion training and resources tailored for members of the campus teaching community (faculty, instructors, teaching assistants, etc.)
- Cultivating interest among campus academic units in health-promoting policies, systems, and environments
- Interpreting and sharing population-level student health data with academic partners
- Maintaining expertise on evidence-based strategies for promoting student health in academic environments and developing supporting materials to guide stakeholder action to improve policies, systems, and environments
- Collaborating with teaching and learning community partners to identify opportunities to enhance academic environments
- Supporting teaching and learning communities in deploying and evaluating health promotion strategies tailored for an academic environment
- Representing UHS in teaching and learning improvement efforts to support appropriate integration of health and well-being strategies and messages
- Coordinating and aligning strategies with UHS prevention, data, and communications teams
- Developing and maintaining a liaison relationship with the Division of Teaching & Learning and Center for Teaching, Learning & Mentoring
- May supervise student employees and/or graduate assistants
This position reports to the Assistant Director for Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention.
Typical remote work arrangements require on-site work at our Madison, WI campus at least 60%, with a schedule determined by supervisors, assistant directors, and/or the director. Remote work privileges can be granted by the director or assistant directors, and approval is dependent on operational need, which may require in-person or on-site staff presence. All staff consistently working remotely must meet campus requirements for remote work and have required documentation in place. (Policy UW-5087)
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, organizes, and evaluates population-health initiatives based on sound data, theory, and evidence
- Applies evidence-based theories, frameworks, and assessments according to current health research and practice
- Gathers and evaluates population-level health data and engages with stakeholders to discern needs and interests and build capacity for population-level health improvement
- Serve as a liaison to the Division of Teaching & Learning in order to build referral pathways and communication channels with academic-facing staff.
- Provides consultation, training, and capacity-building resources for stakeholders to advance a health-promoting setting with respect to policies, learning and working environments, physical spaces, services and support, student development, and/or opportunities for social connectedness

University Health Services (UHS) is the student health center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We are dedicated to promoting, protecting, and improving student health and wellbeing. UHS supports student health through both clinical care and by advancing upstream prevention and campus health initiatives.
UHS Prevention works to build the capacity of our campus community to support and advance population-level health promotion and prevention strategies. We collaborate with partners to enhance data-informed policies, systems, environments and programs at UW-Madison. Our focus areas include suicide prevention and mental health promotion, sexual and relationship violence prevention, alcohol and other drug prevention. This role is within the Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Team.
Division of Teaching and Learning is a collective of 10 units focused on ensuring every UW-Madison student finds inclusive learning environments that make possible the personal and intellectual growth promised in the Wisconsin Experience. We aim to do our work in a spirit of service to our students and in partnership with colleagues in schools, colleges, departments and programs across campus.
Compensation:
The starting salary for the position is $75,000, and is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
- Experience delivering training or educational programs to adult learners
- Demonstrated knowledge of population-level prevention strategies and evidence-based frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing and facilitating training on topics that support students' mental health.
- Subject matter expertise in any of the following areas: mental health, population health approaches, teaching and pedagogical principles
- Experience interpreting and communicating data to non-technical audiences, including the ability to translate health data into actionable insights.
- Experience working in a higher education setting with (or as) faculty, instructors, teaching assistants, or professional staff
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication skills, able to produce accurate, well-organized, and audience-appropriate written materials.
- Effective organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education:
Bachelor's degree required
Masters or PhD preferred
A broad range of relevant areas of specialization will be considered, including public health, education, health sciences, social work, psychology, counseling, teaching and learning, and other related fields.
