At Salt & Straw, we're known for creating unbelievable ice cream experiences—but behind every scoop is a team of talented people who make our business possible. We're looking for a Payroll Manager who shares our commitment to accuracy, service, continuous improvement, and taking great care of our team members.

This is an opportunity to lead an essential business function in a growing, multi-state organization. You'll oversee payroll operations, lead and develop a Payroll Specialist, partner closely with Finance, People, and Operations, and help shape the future of payroll through process improvements, thoughtful reporting, and scalable practices.

If you enjoy solving complex problems, building strong partnerships, and creating systems that help people and businesses thrive, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the timely and accurate processing of multi-state payroll for a growing, multi-unit organization.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, tax regulations, wage and hour requirements, garnishments, and final pay requirements.
  • Oversee payroll audits, reconciliations, tax filings, year-end processing, and related reporting.
  • Partner closely with Finance to ensure payroll data is accurate and reconciled.
  • Lead and develop a Payroll Specialist, providing coaching, support, and opportunities for growth.
  • Partner with the Payroll Specialist to develop meaningful payroll reporting and metrics that provide leaders with actionable business insights.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, strengthen internal controls, and leverage technology to increase efficiency while maintaining exceptional accuracy.
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional projects, including system enhancements, process improvements, and organizational initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for leaders and team members by providing thoughtful guidance and exceptional internal customer service.
What We're Looking For
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive payroll experience, including experience managing end-to-end payroll operations.
  • Experience administering multi-state payroll within a multi-unit retail, restaurant, hospitality, manufacturing, or similarly complex operating environment.
  • Previous experience leading and developing payroll team members.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, payroll compliance, and payroll accounting practices.
  • Experience with enterprise payroll and HRIS platforms; Paycom experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success improving payroll processes and leading cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a passion for continuous improvement and developing others.
Why You'll Love Working Here

At Salt & Straw, we believe exceptional guest experiences begin with exceptional team member experiences. We invest in our people through competitive pay, meaningful benefits, opportunities for growth, and a culture built on curiosity, generosity, and craftsmanship.

  • Competitive salary and annual bonus opportunity
  • Flexible Time Off (FTO), paid holidays, and paid sick time.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with multiple plan options.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Twelve (12) weeks of paid parental leave for eligible team members.
  • Hybrid work schedule, balancing in-office collaboration with remote flexibility for eligible roles.
  • Mental health resources, disability and life insurance, and additional voluntary benefits.
