Remote Part Time Paralegals typically work fewer hours with flexible schedules, making them ideal for those seeking part-time roles. Remote Full Time Paralegals work standard hours, often providing more consistent income and benefits. Both roles require similar credentials and are used in similar legal environments, but the main difference lies in weekly hours and schedule flexibility.

How do remote part time paralegals typically coordinate and communicate with attorneys and legal teams?

Remote part-time paralegals often use a combination of secure email, legal practice management software, and video conferencing tools to stay connected with attorneys and legal teams. Regular check-ins, either weekly or as needed, are common to discuss case progress, clarify assignments, and address any questions. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are key to ensuring deadlines are met and documents are properly managed, even when working offsite. Many firms provide guidelines and protocols for remote collaboration to streamline workflow and maintain confidentiality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote part time paralegal, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Part Time Paralegal, you need strong legal research, document drafting, and case management skills, usually supported by a paralegal certificate or relevant degree. Familiarity with legal research databases (like Westlaw or LexisNexis), document management systems, and secure communication tools is typically required. Excellent time management, attention to detail, and independent communication skills help remote paralegals stand out. These abilities are vital for ensuring accurate legal support, meeting deadlines, and maintaining effective collaboration in a remote work environment.

What is a remote part time paralegal?

A remote part time paralegal is a legal professional who assists lawyers with tasks such as legal research, drafting documents, and case management, but works from a location outside the traditional office, often from home. They typically work less than full-time hours, allowing for flexibility in scheduling. This arrangement enables law firms or legal departments to access qualified support while offering paralegals a better work-life balance and the ability to work from virtually anywhere.

Job description

We are hiring an experienced Paralegal to join our lean, high-performing commercial practice. This is a dedicated paralegal role focused on rigorous case and deadline management, checklist-driven workflows, and proactive support of attorneys across litigation, corporate, and transactional matters. The ideal candidate is bright, determined, highly organized, and takes ownership of tracking systems and action planning without constant direction. (24 hours per week to start, with growth opportunities!)

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage case files (digital and physical), client correspondence, and docket deadlines for litigation, corporate, and transactional matters.
  2. Maintain detailed checklists, trackers, and action plans; initiate follow-up and flag upcoming deadlines.
  3. Prepare and organize legal documents, filings, and supporting materials.
  4. Own and update the firm’s client corporate and administrative calendars for critical deadlines (court dates, statutes of limitation, contract notice periods, trademark/IP maintenance, corporate filings, immigration compliance, settlement dates, etc.).
  5. Input deadlines into shared Outlook calendars with reliable reminders and send proactive 30/60-day client notices.
  6. Assist with client onboarding documents, selected correspondence, and follow-up touchpoints.
  7. Maintain and update standard legal templates, checklists, and firm precedents.
  8. Coordinate closely with attorneys and the existing paralegal/ops team to keep matters moving and files consistent.

Qualifications:

  1. At least 3–5 years of paralegal experience in a commercial, corporate, litigation, or professional-services setting; alternative professional detail-oriented experience will be considered.
  2. Demonstrated strength in deadline tracking, checklist systems, detailed note-taking, and initiating action plans.
  3. Strong familiarity with legal document management, case organization, and multi-matter calendaring.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (especially Outlook calendars) and comfort with legal practice / document management software.
  5. Excellent written communication, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities accurately under deadlines.
  6. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small, remote-friendly team.
  7. Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification preferred but not required.
