What is the difference between Remote Orthotics Prosthetics vs Remote Physical Therapist?

AspectRemote Orthotics ProstheticsRemote Physical Therapist
Required CredentialsOrthotic/Prosthetic Certification, State LicensurePhysical Therapy License, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)
Work EnvironmentPatient fittings, device adjustments, consultations via telehealthPatient assessments, therapy plans, telehealth sessions
Industry UsageMedical device manufacturing, rehabilitation clinicsRehabilitation centers, outpatient clinics

While both roles involve telehealth and patient interaction, Remote Orthotics Prosthetics focuses on designing and fitting orthotic and prosthetic devices, requiring specialized certifications. Remote Physical Therapists primarily develop and oversee therapy plans for recovery, needing a physical therapy license. Both roles serve healthcare needs remotely but differ in their specific credentials and daily tasks.

What are remote orthotics and prosthetics specialists?

Remote orthotics and prosthetics specialists are healthcare professionals who design, fit, and manage orthotic (braces and supports) and prosthetic (artificial limb) devices for patients, often using telehealth technologies. They use digital tools to assess patients' needs, provide consultations, and oversee device fittings and adjustments without requiring in-person visits. This approach increases accessibility for patients in remote or underserved areas while maintaining the quality of care.

What are some common challenges faced by remote orthotics and prosthetics professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Remote orthotics and prosthetics professionals often navigate challenges such as limited direct patient interaction, reliance on digital imaging or telehealth assessments, and coordinating with on-site clinicians for device fittings and adjustments. To address these, strong communication skills and proficiency with digital tools are essential, as is establishing clear protocols with local care teams. Many remote professionals also participate in regular virtual team meetings and continuing education to stay aligned with best practices and maintain a high standard of patient care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Orthotics Prosthetics professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Orthotics Prosthetics professional, you need a solid background in anatomy, biomechanics, and device fabrication, typically supported by a degree in orthotics and prosthetics and relevant certification (such as ABC or BOC). Familiarity with telehealth platforms, CAD/CAM software, and digital patient management systems is often required for remote service delivery. Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and empathy are essential soft skills for conducting virtual assessments and supporting patients remotely. These skills and tools ensure accurate device fitting, high-quality patient care, and effective collaboration despite the limitations of remote interactions.

Job description

About Hike Medical

Hike Medical is building the defining company in musculoskeletal care. We sit at the intersection of AI, robotics, and healthcare, operating across three product lines: a proprietary AI-vision platform that turns a 30-second, web-based foot scan into custom 3D-printed orthotics; an AI agent platform that automates the entire DME workflow from pre-visit processing through claims and revenue cycle; and SoleForge, our vertically integrated 3D-printing factory producing custom medical devices at a scale the industry has never seen.

Insoles today, full DME tomorrow, bionics by 2040. Custom insoles are just the wedge. Our long-term vision is bionics: AI-designed, robotically manufactured orthotic and prosthetic devices at scale, replacing a fragmented, manual industry that hasn’t changed in decades. Read the full vision at bionics2040.com.

We’re live across the industry’s largest national orthotics-and-prosthetics providers and tracking toward a $50M run rate by the end of 2026. We’ve stealthily raised $22M across Seed and Series A from top-tier investors who backed OpenAI, Anduril, and Mercury early, and we run a fast, results-first, high-ownership culture out of our SF Rincon Hill office.

About the Center of Excellence

The Center of Excellence is the intelligence engine of Hike. It owns the clinical and coding knowledge that powers every AI agent — producing agent guides per code block, setting evaluation standards, informing all compliance policies, and managing the human-in-the-loop team. CoE roles are the highest-leverage positions in the company: the documents and workflows you build determine how fast we expand into new device categories.

The Role

The Criteria Project Manager runs the production line that keeps the Center of Excellence on schedule. For each new device category we expand into, there are agent guides to produce, criteria checklists to publish, policy changes to propagate, and HITL training materials to update. You own the calendar, the dependencies, the quality gates, and the shipping deadlines for all of it. You are not a coder or a clinician — you are the person who makes sure the clinicians and coders hit their targets.

What You Will Do

  • Own the code block expansion calendar: track which categories are in production, in review, and ready to ship.

  • Coordinate across the Clinical Intelligence Lead, Protocol Specialist, Compliance Specialist, and engineering to sequence dependencies correctly.

  • Set and maintain throughput targets for agent guide production (e.g., one new code block per sprint).

  • Manage the policy change queue: when CMS or a major payer updates policies, ensure the right person picks it up and publishes within SLA.

  • Track HITL team onboarding to new categories, ensuring training materials are ready before go-live.

  • Run weekly CoE standups and publish status updates to the broader team.

  • Own the CoE documentation repository: versioning, access, and organization.

What We Are Looking For

  • 3+ years in program or project management in healthcare, health tech, or a clinical services environment.

  • Experience managing complex multi-stakeholder workflows with clinical and technical dependencies.

  • Familiarity with DMEPOS, managed care, or utilization management processes strongly preferred.

  • Exceptional at tracking details across multiple parallel workstreams without dropping things.

  • Excellent written communication — you\'ll publish updates the whole company reads.

  • Experience with project management tools (Linear, Jira, Asana, or similar).
