Job description

Signal Advisors is on a mission to solve the retirement crisis. 69% of Americans do not work with a financial advisor today, and only a quarter have a financial plan. Our team is reimagining a 60-year-old industry-bringing new technologies, comprehensive services, and an inspired vision to financial advisors. Supported by our incredible investors, we've grown from a small Detroit-based team in 2020 to over 120+ team members dispersed across the country.
We are: Empowering Leaders. Client Advocates. Entrepreneurial Champions.
Our team is a blend of industry experts and technologists building a better business, together. We're in it for the long haul. Are you looking to be part of a dedicated, dispersed team where you can architect your impact and shape the company's vision? Join us at Signal!
THE JOB
We're a small but mighty team powering the billing engine behind a growing number of financial advisors and wealth management firms. We are seeking a Billing Specialist to serve as a subject matter expert and lead of the day-to-day execution of comprehensive billing operations for a diverse portfolio of RIA (Registered Investment Advisor) and TAMP (Turnkey Asset Management Platform) clients within our billing department.
In this role, you will own the end-to-end billing lifecycle for our most complex RIA and TAMP clients. You'll be expected to not only execute but to innovate, identifying systemic inefficiencies, architecting scalable workflows in Orion, and ensuring our "billing engine" runs with surgical precision. We need a proactive doer, who anticipates roadblocks before they occur and can translate complex financial data into actionable insights for our firm partners.
WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO
  • Lead the execution of comprehensive billing cycles for high-net-worth and multi-entity RIA/TAMP portfolios, ensuring absolute accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as the internal Orion power-user; architecting complex fee structures, automating tiered billing schedules, and optimizing platform configurations to support firm growth.
  • Design and implement rigorous data integrity frameworks and "zero-defect" reconciliation processes to catch anomalies across platforms.
  • Lead the billing onboarding for large-scale firm migrations, translating intricate advisory agreements into functional billing logic.
  • Continuously evaluate our tech stack (Orion, CRMs, and Reporting tools) to streamline workflows, reduce manual intervention, and increase departmental throughput.
  • Act as the primary point of escalation for complex billing discrepancies, providing professional, high-touch support to financial advisors.
  • Partner with Finance, Compliance, and Operations leadership to align billing practices with industry regulations (SEC/FINRA) and internal revenue goals.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IN TEAM MEMBERS
  • A collaborative spirit with a proven ability to work effectively across different internal teams (finance, operations, client service).
  • High adaptability and agility to thrive in a continuously evolving start-up environment.
  • The "Process Architect" Mindset: You don't just follow a checklist; you build a better one. You are driven by efficiency and scalability.
  • Advanced Problem-Solving: You thrive on "un-breaking" complex data issues and can navigate ambiguous billing scenarios with poise.
  • Ownership & Accountability: You treat our clients' revenue as if it were your own, with a radical commitment to accuracy and deadlines.
  • Strategic Communication: You can distill complex fee calculations or technical platform hurdles into clear, professional narratives for stakeholders.

WHAT YOU HAVE
  • 5+ Years of Experience in RIA or TAMP billing operations, specifically within a high-volume or multi-firm environment.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with Orion Advisor Tech (or similar enterprise platforms like Addepar/Black Diamond) is non-negotiable. You should be comfortable with fee-file audits, representative mapping, and custom report building.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets (Vlookups, Index/Match, Array Formulas, and Data Visualization).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for client and internal interactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and maintain exceptional organization.
  • Keen attention to detail and a high level of accountability for financial data accuracy.
  • Self-driven and able to stay focused and productive in a remote work environment without constant supervision.
  • A strong understanding of SEC billing regulations, including fee-flow transparency and "Custody" implications.
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale projects (like annual audits or platform migrations) alongside recurring monthly/quarterly billing cycles.

We find inches everywhere around us. There are thousands of opportunities to make an impact. We take those opportunities and act.
We do the right thing. Sticking to the highest standard of integrity is not optional.
We have strong opinions, loosely held. It's not about WHO is right, it's about WHAT is right.
Simplicity is Genius. Simplicity doesn't just clarify; it makes things better for everyone. It's that simple.
Ideas are valued, execution is worshiped. Great ideas get you to the 50-yard line; outstanding execution gets you into the end zone.
We are the "they". There is no "they". We are empowered to fix things, to be proactive, to find a solution.
We launch big ideas and then obsess over feedback to learn how we can make it even better.
