Senior RIA Billing Specialist

Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid) or USA (Remote)

Position Summary

The Senior RIA Billing Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end administration of advisory fee billing for Three Strands' registered investment advisory (RIA) businesses, including Alongside and 49 Financial. This role owns the quarterly advisory fee billing process, advisor compensation calculations, billing reconciliations, and related reporting while partnering closely with Accounting to support monthly close and revenue recognition. Serving as the firm's subject matter expert for RIA billing, the Senior RIA Billing Specialist ensures billing accuracy, operational efficiency, and exceptional service to advisors while supporting the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

Advisory Fee Billing

  • Own the end-to-end advisory fee billing process for Alongside and 49 Financial.
  • Experience building billing processes from the ground up.
  • Experience running RIA billing is a must.
  • Establish, maintain, and audit advisory fee schedules, including tiered, blended, household, advance, and arrears billing structures.
  • Manage the quarterly billing calendar and execute billing cycles accurately and on schedule.
  • Reconcile billing activity and investigate billing discrepancies to ensure accurate client billing.

Advisor Compensation

  • Calculate and prepare advisor compensation statements related to advisory fee revenue.
  • Research and resolve advisor questions regarding billing and compensation.
  • Ensure advisor compensation is processed accurately and timely.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Partner with Accounting to support monthly close and revenue recognition activities.
  • Prepare billing reports, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.

Operations & Process Improvement

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for advisory fee billing systems and processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve billing workflows, controls, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist in developing and documenting scalable billing procedures as the business continues to grow.

Advisor & Business Support

  • Build strong relationships with advisors and internal stakeholders by providing responsive, high-quality customer service.
  • Partner with operations and leadership to resolve billing questions and support business initiatives.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience administering advisory fee billing within an independent Registered Investment Advisor (RIA).
  • Hands-on experience managing end-to-end RIA billing, including fee schedules, billing cycles, reconciliations, and advisor compensation.
  • Strong knowledge of advisory fee methodologies, including tiered, blended, household, advance, and arrears billing.
  • Experience with Black Diamond and Orion strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting accounting functions, including reconciliations and revenue recognition.
  • Demonstrated ability to build or improve billing processes and operational controls preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to effectively speak to and support advisors and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment while managing multiple priorities.
