Job Duties
  • Independently manage an active caseload from inception through resolution
  • Take and defend party, witness, and expert depositions
  • Draft, review, and argue pleadings, motions, and discovery-related matters
  • Conduct written discovery, including preparing and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission
  • Attend court appearances, hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and arbitrations
  • Develop litigation strategy and assess liability and exposure throughout the life of a case
  • Prepare matters for trial, including witness preparation, exhibit management, and trial strategy development
  • Communicate directly with clients, insurance carriers, opposing counsel, experts, and other relevant parties
  • Analyze case facts, damages, and legal issues to formulate recommendations and case strategy
  • Negotiate settlements and assist with dispute resolution efforts
  • Maintain organized case documentation and timely reporting requirements
  • Partner closely with litigation support staff to ensure efficient case management

Job Requirements
  • Active California Bar license in good standing
  • 3 to 5+ years of litigation defense experience, preferably within general liability and/or subrogation matters
  • Ability to independently manage a litigation caseload with minimal supervision
  • Experience with MerusCase case management software preferred
