What are remote off grid jobs?

Remote off grid jobs are positions that allow individuals to work from locations that are not connected to traditional utilities like electricity, water, or internet. These jobs are often performed in rural, wilderness, or isolated areas, and commonly involve roles such as writers, software developers, consultants, or any other work that can be done with minimal infrastructure. Many people choose remote off grid jobs for the opportunity to live sustainably, reduce their environmental footprint, and achieve greater independence. Reliable internet access, power solutions like solar panels, and self-motivation are typically essential for success in these roles.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a remote off grid technician?

To thrive as a Remote Off-Grid Technician, you need expertise in electrical systems, renewable energy technologies (like solar and wind), and general mechanical troubleshooting, often supported by relevant technical certifications or degrees. Familiarity with solar panel installation, battery storage systems, inverters, and monitoring tools is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, self-reliance, and effective communication are vital for managing challenges in isolated environments. These abilities ensure reliable system performance and safety, which are crucial for maintaining off-grid infrastructure without immediate onsite support.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working in remote off grid roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in remote off-grid roles often encounter challenges such as limited access to resources, communication difficulties, and isolation from larger teams. Addressing these issues typically involves using satellite internet or radio for reliable communication, maintaining comprehensive checklists for equipment and supplies, and establishing regular check-ins with supervisors or colleagues. Many organizations also provide specialized training for emergency preparedness and encourage participation in virtual team-building activities to foster a sense of community.

What is the difference between Remote Off Grid vs Remote Solar Installer?

AspectRemote Off GridRemote Solar Installer

Work EnvironmentRemote, off-grid locations, self-sufficient setupsRemote or on-site, installing solar systems in various locations
Industry UsageRenewable energy, off-grid living, sustainable projectsRenewable energy, solar power industry, residential/commercial projects

Remote Off Grid jobs focus on designing and maintaining self-sufficient energy systems in remote locations, often requiring general renewable energy knowledge. Remote Solar Installers specialize in installing solar panels and systems, typically needing specific certifications. While both roles work within the renewable energy sector, Remote Off Grid emphasizes off-grid living solutions, whereas Remote Solar Installers concentrate on solar system deployment.

Grid Modernization, Transmission & Energy Storage Lead (RAE) - Remote

Los Angeles, CA • On-site, Remote

Full-time

Posted 20 days ago

Job description

Role purpose
Lead or review utility, transmission, distribution, cross-border power, grid-modernization, smart-grid, and storage assessments that convert system constraints into feasible, financeable implementation pathways.
Representative problems this role must solve
  • A utility faces losses, reliability, automation, cybersecurity, integration, regulatory, workforce, or institutional constraints.
  • A battery, pumped-hydro, microgrid, or island-storage concept must reconcile sizing, dispatch, degradation, tariff, procurement, logistics, lifecycle cost, resilience, and O&M.
  • A cross-border interconnector requires aligned utilities, regulators, dispatch rules, benefit allocation, financing, and geopolitical interfaces.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose system needs using demand, reliability, loss, generation, network, operating, regulatory, and institutional evidence.
  • Evaluate alternatives, system models, sizing/dispatch, lifecycle cost, resilience, operating model, procurement, cybersecurity, implementation sequence, and capacity-building needs.
  • Define TOR tasks, data requirements, performance measures, schedule, budget inputs, acceptance tests, and risk/recovery branches.
  • Integrate project finance, climate/resilience, country regulation, suppliers, safeguards, and stakeholder requirements.
  • Independently challenge models, assumptions, vendor claims, tariff/off-take logic, and implementation readiness.

Minimum evidence-based qualifications
  • Senior utility, power-system planning, transmission/distribution, grid-modernization, storage, microgrid, interconnection, or system-operations experience.
  • Evidence using or reviewing power-flow, production-cost, dispatch, reliability, storage, tariff, or lifecycle-cost analysis.
  • Emerging-market, island-grid, or cross-border system experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience translating diagnostic findings into implementable scopes, procurement strategies, roadmaps, or investment programs.
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, with written attestation required before proposal inclusion.
  • Demonstrated senior/expert judgment supported by specific project, analysis, decision-product, or implementation evidence-not keyword familiarity alone.
  • Ability to produce concise, defensible written analysis in English and work across technical, commercial, financial, safeguards, institutional, and implementation interfaces.
  • Ability to become available for potential Indo-Pacific travel within 20 calendar days after Axyde's written mobilization notice following contract award, subject to assignment needs and Government direction.
  • Willingness to disclose availability, employment/contract restrictions, confidentiality obligations, conflicts, noncompetes, country/customer limitations, and relevant intellectual-property constraints.

Evidence to submit
  • Current résumé or CV with dates, employer/client, country, project stage, personal role, methods used, decision product, and outcome for the most relevant assignments.
  • Two to four representative projects demonstrating the required expert judgment and decision-grade products.
  • Countries/regions worked, languages used professionally, travel limitations, and current location.
  • Licenses, registrations, clearances, certifications, publications, or standards experience when relevant to the role.
  • Written permission for Axyde to use and evidence-preservingly reformat the résumé for solicitation 1131PL26R0056, subject to final résumé review if requested.

Application questions
  • Are you a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident? State one; do not upload identity documents at the application stage.
  • May Axyde use your name and evidence-preservingly tailor/reformat your résumé for this specific contingent proposal?
  • Could you become available for required Indo-Pacific travel within 20 calendar days after Axyde's written mobilization notice following contract award? Identify restrictions.
  • Identify current employment, contractual, confidentiality, noncompete, customer, country, or conflict restrictions relevant to this opportunity.
  • Describe the strongest decision product you personally led or independently reviewed and the decision it supported.
  • Describe a grid or storage decision where your analysis materially changed configuration, sequencing, procurement, or investment.
  • Which tools/models and input evidence did you use, and how were results independently checked?
  • Which modules can you lead or review: network planning, storage, controls/AMI, cybersecurity, utility operations, tariff/regulation, cross-border markets, resilience, or implementation?

Important contingent-opportunity notice
This posting supports a competitive proposal and is not an offer or guarantee of employment, subcontract, assignment, hours, travel, or compensation. Candidate rate requests are collected separately, if requested later, and do not determine Axyde's proposal pricing. Do not submit passports, green cards, Social Security numbers, export-controlled information, customer-proprietary material, or third-party confidential information with the initial application. Axyde will request only the written confirmations and secure evidence needed for proposal release and lawful engagement.
Axyde Analytics, LLC considers qualified candidates without regard to protected status and will evaluate applicants against the evidence and operational requirements of the contingent role.
