Job description

HIM Coding Tech II

Codes Inpatient, Observation and Same Day Surgery (SDS) charts using ICD10-CM and CPT coding guidelines.

Checks inpatient, observation and same day surgery charts for completeness of documentation by working the coding queues.

Uses ICD10-CM and CPT coding guidelines to accurately and completely assign codes to each patient chart.

Communicates with physicians and other personnel as needed to locate and code certain emergency room, outpatient/clinic/ancillary records.

Maintains patient, departmental, and employee confidentiality at all times.

Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification preferred.

One year coding experience preferred.

Other coding certifications, such as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), etc. may be accepted with years of experience. Intern/externships are considered in experience time. Transcripts will be reviewed.

Work requires light duty lifting.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.

Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery such as calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Position can possibly be remote, but must be able to physically come into the office/hospital as requested.
