Job description

Microsoft 365 and Azure Government Administrator

Location: Remote, with occasional onsite support in Washington, DC Requirements: Ability to work without sponsorship and ability to obtain a federal Public Trust

Position Overview

System One IT is seeking a Microsoft 365 and Azure Government Administrator to support an enterprise federal environment. This position provides hands-on administration and operational support across Microsoft 365, Azure Government, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, Intune, Defender, and related Microsoft cloud services. The Administrator will manage daily Microsoft infrastructure activities, execute approved configuration changes, resolve routine and moderately complex technical issues, and support security and compliance initiatives. This individual should be comfortable working independently while escalating advanced or cross-platform issues to the Senior Microsoft Infrastructure Administrator when appropriate. The ideal candidate has practical experience administering Microsoft cloud technologies in a federal or similarly regulated enterprise environment and demonstrates strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to secure infrastructure operations.

Key Responsibilities

Microsoft 365 Administration

• Provide daily administration and support for Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams • Complete configuration changes, service requests, and user administration activities in accordance with established procedures and ITIL change-management practices • Monitor Microsoft 365 service health, performance, and availability • Maintain Microsoft 365 configuration documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge-base articles • Support user provisioning, deprovisioning, group administration, and Microsoft 365 license management • Assist with Microsoft 365 service updates, feature rollouts, and configuration improvements

Azure Government and Microsoft Entra ID

• Support the administration of Azure Government and Microsoft Entra ID • Manage users, groups, enterprise applications, role assignments, and access requests • Administer multifactor authentication, Conditional Access policies, and single sign-on configurations • Support identity security and Zero Trust initiatives through least-privilege access controls • Complete routine Azure Government resource, access-control, and policy-monitoring activities • Support FedRAMP compliance activities for Azure Government services • Coordinate with senior administrators on complex Azure Government and Entra ID issues

Endpoint Management and Security

• Administer Microsoft Intune for device enrollment, configuration, compliance, and application deployment • Support Microsoft Defender for Endpoint configuration and endpoint security incident response • Apply and maintain endpoint configuration baselines and compliance policies aligned with organizational and federal security requirements • Support Windows endpoint patching and software deployment • Troubleshoot device enrollment, compliance, application deployment, and policy issues • Coordinate with service desk, network, and security teams on endpoint-related incidents

Exchange Online and Microsoft Teams

• Support daily Exchange Online administration, including mailbox management, distribution groups, mail-flow monitoring, and basic transport rules • Administer Microsoft Teams policies, user configurations, meeting settings, and governance controls • Support anti-spam, anti-phishing, and email-security policies • Assist with Microsoft Defender for Office 365 administration • Coordinate with audiovisual support teams on Microsoft Teams Rooms configuration and support • Resolve routine and moderately complex Exchange Online and Teams incidents

Security, Compliance, and Governance

• Perform Microsoft infrastructure administration in accordance with FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST SP 800-53, and organizational cybersecurity requirements • Apply least-privilege and separation-of-duties principles to access-management activities • Support Zero Trust Architecture initiatives across Microsoft platforms • Assist with security assessments, audit evidence collection, and remediation activities • Follow established procedures for handling sensitive and controlled information • Promptly report suspected or confirmed information-security incidents

Incident Management and Troubleshooting

• Independently diagnose and resolve routine and moderately complex Microsoft infrastructure incidents • Escalate advanced or cross-domain incidents to the Senior Microsoft Infrastructure Administrator when appropriate • Maintain accurate incident, service request, change, and problem records in the applicable ITSM platform • Coordinate with service desk, network, security, and infrastructure teams to resolve technical issues • Follow and contribute to troubleshooting runbooks, operational procedures, and knowledge-base documentation

Required Qualifications

• 3 to 5 or more years of hands-on enterprise Microsoft infrastructure administration experience • Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID in a federal or comparably regulated enterprise environment • Hands-on experience supporting Azure Government or a comparable Microsoft cloud environment • Experience with Microsoft Intune device management, compliance policies, and application deployment • Familiarity with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and Microsoft Defender for Office 365 • Ability to independently resolve routine and moderately complex Microsoft infrastructure issues • Experience with FedRAMP-authorized Microsoft services and federal security requirements • Familiarity with Zero Trust principles as applied to Microsoft platforms • Working experience with PowerShell for Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online, or Azure administration • Familiarity with ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow • Understanding of ITIL change and incident-management practices • Knowledge of enterprise networking concepts relevant to Microsoft cloud services

Required Technical Experience

Candidates should demonstrate hands-on experience with several of the following: • Microsoft 365 administration • Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams • Azure Government • Microsoft Entra ID • Multifactor authentication and Conditional Access • Microsoft Intune • Microsoft Defender for Endpoint • Microsoft Defender for Office 365 • Exchange Online mail flow and email security • Role-based access control and least-privilege administration • PowerShell • Zero Trust Architecture • FedRAMP, FISMA, or NIST SP 800-53

Required Certifications
