Job description

Type of Position: Full-time, non-exempt (hourly), temporary
Team: Communications Engagement
Reports To: Deputy Managing Director, Communications
About This Role
Climate Power has an immediate opening for a Storytelling Associate to help the storytelling team identify, recruit, and cultivate relationships with people who are directly impacted by the attacks on climate change and our clean energy progress.
The Storytelling Associate is a member of the Communications Engagement vertical of Climate Power's Communications team.
This is a temporary position to support Climate Power's work through the election cycle. It is expected that this role will end on December 4, 2026.
Responsibilities
  • Work with the Storytelling Director to identify and recruit Americans impacted by attacks on climate change and our clean energy progress.
  • Monitor key sources like social media, print, broadcast, and podcast clips to source new voices aligned with the priorities of the organization.
  • In coordination with the Storytelling Director, develop, maintain, and grow a new retention program designed to consistently engage storytellers.
  • Maintain a detailed and up-to-date tracking system for all storyteller research, outreach, and follow-up.
  • Serve as a point of contact for storytellers, engaging warmly and professionally across phone, email, and other channels.
  • Anticipate and respond to storytelling needs from across the organization or partners in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure a smooth experience for storytellers from first contact through onboarding, while nurturing ongoing relationships by using regular check-ins.
  • Conduct administrative work as needed for the storytelling program.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needs and capacity dictates.
Essential Qualifications
  • 1 year of relevant prior work experience, which may include electoral campaigns, storyteller recruitment, communications, or administrative work.
  • Works effectively with diverse groups, communities, and partners.
  • Natural ability to connect with new people quickly and make them feel at ease.
  • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Able to work with and across teams in a remote organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Workspace, and other recruitment tools.

Location & Hours of Operations
Climate Power is a remote-first organization based in Washington, DC. This position can be located anywhere in the United States, but must be able to work Monday - Friday 9 am - 6 pm EST, plus weekends and evenings as the work dictates. Occasional travel is required as needed, typically 3-4 times per year.
Our Hiring Timeline and Process
We are accepting applications on a rolling basis and will continue to interview until the position is filled.
An ideal start date would be on or before June 5, 2026. This is a temporary position and is expected to run through December 4, 2026.
Our interview process generally involves 2 rounds of interviews, ranging in length from 30-60 minutes. All interviews will be conducted via Google Meet or Zoom. Successful candidates that move forward in the hiring process, will be invited to complete a skills assessment activity (for which they will receive payment) and will undergo a vetting process, including reference and background check.
