Summary
About the Position: The purpose of this position is to maintain and research the medical record archive system ensuring that inpatient, ambulatory procedures visit records and outpatient records are archived and retired according to established regulations.
This position is located at WINN Army Medical Hospital, Fort Stewart, GA.

Duties
Help
  • Maintain and files medical records utilizing the terminal digit filing system.
  • Report overdue/ missing record report for trends and historical data to command.
  • Register new patients, creating electronic medical records, inputs patient information, edits allergy information, prints embossed cards and prepares thermal barcode labels for each record.
  • Resolve patient complaints of an administrative nature, referring complaints to appropriate level when discussion fails.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Lifting up to 15 pounds may be required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Medical Records Technician (Office Automation):
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes responding to routine requests for readily identifiable medical information from health care organizations, insurance companies, patients and/or other governmental or non-governmental agencies; using word processing equipment and standard office applications software to update, review, or correct patient records; and maintain medical records in accordance with established regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
