As a Remote Medic, you may encounter unique challenges such as limited access to immediate resources, making quick medical decisions with incomplete information, and adapting to patients’ diverse technological capabilities. You’ll often work independently or with a small, dispersed team, which requires strong self-motivation and resourcefulness. This role relies on your ability to provide clear instructions and maintain calm under pressure, as patients may be in unfamiliar or high-stress situations. Success comes from proactively utilizing remote technologies and collaborating effectively with both patients and other healthcare professionals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Medic position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Medic, you need a background in emergency medical care, strong clinical decision-making abilities, and a valid EMT, paramedic, or similar certification. Experience with telemedicine platforms, remote monitoring equipment, and secure communication tools is often required. Outstanding problem-solving, communication, and empathy help you effectively assess and guide patients from a distance. These skills ensure safe, high-quality medical support in remote environments where traditional in-person care may not be immediately available.

Our client is a rapidly expanding, innovative healthcare organization that is changing lives every day for both patients and team members. For individuals who are entrepreneurial-minded, ambitious, and inspire others with kindness and joy, this organization offers an incredible team environment. They do things differently than most primary care groups, and we are seeking top-tier clinical professionals to support their accelerating growth.

The Mobile Medic, Advanced (Community Paramedic) works closely with the after-hours virtual care team and daytime primary care providers to deliver a full scope of urgent and acute in-home clinical care. Operating on a flexible 20-hour weekly schedule, the core goal is to assess, stabilize, and treat patients at home using advanced clinical interventions (such as IV administration and medication management), preventing unnecessary ER visits and bridging their care to the clinic.

Unique Work-from-Home Flexibility & Dispatch Logistics:

  • Work-from-Home Eligible: If you live within a 30-minute radius of your assigned patients, you can remain on standby and deploy straight from your home
  • On-Site Base: If you live on the outskirts or further away, you will deploy from the Shockhoe Bottom center (which features a dedicated medication room for your clinical supplies).
  • Guaranteed Shift Pay: You are paid for your entire shift regardless of how many patient home-visits are deployed that day.

Schedule & Hours:

  • Total Hours: 20 hours per week.
  • Weekday Hours: Mostly Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM highly flexible around your personal schedule.
  • Weekend Rotation: Required to work one weekend shift per month (10-hour or 12-hour shifts: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM or 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM).
  • Deployment Model: Dispatched to patient homes on an as-needed basis following patient interactions with the virtual care line.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer prescribed medications (including IM injections and starting IVs), change dressings, perform first aid, and deliver appropriate care at the Paramedic skill level.
  • Utilize expert emergency judgment to determine within a few minutes if a patient can be safely stabilized at home or requires immediate EMS transport to an emergency department.
  • Conduct advanced, one-on-one in-home wellness evaluations with senior patients, measuring vitals, weight, and EKGs, while identifying cognitive, medication compliance, or social challenges.
  • Prepare patients for telehealth video visits, facilitating smooth interactions between the patient at home and the remote care provider.
  • Collect phlebotomy and other laboratory specimens, perform basic Point of Care (POC) lab testing, and complete brief home safety inspections.
  • Create meticulous clinical records for every encounter via the EHR system, updating patient histories, medications, allergies, and emergency contacts to immediately hand off to the primary care team.
  • Report cases of suspected abuse or neglect to Adult Protective Services (APS) when necessary. Educate seniors on aging/disability resources and coordinate community support agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Current, active, and unrestricted state Paramedic license.
  • A minimum of 5–10 years of active work experience as a Paramedic in EMS or Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) is highly preferred.
  • Candidates with an Associate's degree and at least 5 years of experience will be prioritized.
  • Minimum Requirement: At least 1 year of high-volume Paramedic experience (no brand-new graduates will be considered).
  • Active BLS (AHA or American Red Cross) and ALS certifications are required.
  • Community Paramedic Certification (CP-C) is required, or must be obtained within 18 months of hire date.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License and a highly reliable personal vehicle to transport yourself and company-issued medical supplies to home visits.
  • Must live and/or work in the Richmond, VA area and be comfortable traveling locally 100% of the working shift.
  • Prior experience utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR), working within telemedicine/virtual clinical care, or treating geriatric patient populations. Spoken Spanish fluency is a plus.

Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly pay with guaranteed shift hours.
  • $250.00 monthly car allowance to cover personal vehicle use.
  • Dedicated training, medical protocols, and a strong administrative infrastructure.
  • Strong, supportive culture focused on empathy, love, accountability, and passion.
