Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Applications Engineer (Membrane Technology) based in Netherlands.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to contribute to innovative water treatment solutions supporting sustainability and resource efficiency worldwide. In this role, you will design and optimize advanced membrane-based systems, combining technical expertise with practical engineering applications. You'll work on complex projects involving ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and electrodeionization technologies while collaborating with global engineering, sales, and product teams. Your expertise in water chemistry, process design, and system modeling will directly support the delivery of high-performance solutions for industrial and municipal applications. This position is ideal for a technically driven professional who enjoys solving engineering challenges, working with international teams, and contributing to impactful environmental technologies.

Accountabilities
  • Design and develop membrane treatment systems, including UF, RO, EDI/FEDI solutions, through process calculations, system sizing, and performance modeling.
  • Create engineering documentation such as process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment lists, datasheets, and proposal-level design packages.
  • Analyze water chemistry data to optimize system performance, identify potential fouling and scaling risks, and recommend appropriate treatment approaches.
  • Support commercial teams with technical proposals, customer discussions, solution development, and engineering expertise throughout the sales process.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Research & Development, Product Management, and Operations teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Assist with pilot testing, product validation activities, technical evaluations, and customer or internal training initiatives.
  • Apply engineering judgment and technical problem-solving skills to develop reliable and cost-effective membrane technology solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes, products, and technical documentation within a global engineering environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience applying membrane systems within industrial or municipal water treatment processes.
  • Proven experience with membrane system selection, sizing, integration, and performance evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of water chemistry principles and the ability to interpret water analysis data to support membrane selection and operating conditions.
  • Experience using membrane design and sizing tools such as ROSA, WAVE, IMSDesign, or similar engineering software.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret engineering documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and technical datasheets.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills with a structured and analytical approach to engineering challenges.
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global, remote, and cross-functional team environment.
  • Professional fluency in English is required; Spanish or Portuguese language skills are considered an advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to approximately 20%, with a valid passport.
Benefits
  • Fully remote position with the flexibility to work from Germany.
  • Opportunity to contribute to global sustainability initiatives and innovative water treatment technologies.
  • International, collaborative engineering environment with exposure to diverse projects and markets.
  • Full-time position with regular working hours from Monday to Friday.
  • Paid time off and company-paid holidays.
  • Retirement benefits through a company-supported 401K plan where applicable.
  • Opportunity to work with advanced engineering solutions addressing global water challenges.
  • Professional growth opportunities within a technology-focused organization.
