Overview
Selective is seeking a skilled General Liability Claims Specialist for this fully remote position to handle claims throughout Selective's footprint. It is preferred that the ideal candidate has experience handling General Liability claims for Selective's Midwest and Western States.
This role provides direct ownership of a diverse portfolio of non-litigated General Liability claims. The General Liability Claim Adjuster applies sound claims judgment and strong technical expertise to analyze coverage, conduct thorough investigations, evaluate exposures, negotiate resolutions, and bring claims to timely disposition.
With meaningful responsibility for claim outcomes, the adjuster delivers high-quality service to customers and business partners while managing claims in accordance with company policies, procedures, prescribed authority, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements. This position offers the opportunity to build deep General Liability expertise, make informed decisions, and contribute directly to efficient, fair, and effective claim resolution.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of General Liability claims from initial report through resolution.
  • Investigate coverage, liability, and damages by gathering information from insureds, claimants, witnesses, attorneys, and other relevant parties.
  • Analyze policy coverage and issue required claim correspondence in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and company guidelines.
  • Evaluate claim exposures, establish and maintain appropriate reserves, and negotiate fair and timely settlements within delegated authority.
  • Coordinate with defense counsel, experts, and other service providers on litigated or complex claim matters.
  • Identify recovery opportunities, including contribution and subrogation, when applicable.
  • Maintain accurate and timely claim documentation, payments, and expense approvals in the claims management system.
  • Partner effectively with insureds, agents, underwriters, and internal teams to deliver a responsive and high-quality claims experience.
  • Recognize potential fraud indicators and refer matters in accordance with company procedures.

Qualifications
Knowledge and Requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organization, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Sound analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and claim-resolution abilities.
  • Demonstrated judgment and decision-making within delegated authority.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with business partners.
  • Proficiency with standard business software and claims management systems.
  • Applicable state claims adjuster licensure preferred.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of commercial General Liability claims handling experience preferred.
  • Experience evaluating and resolving bodily injury claims preferred.
  • Relevant insurance industry training or professional designations preferred.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
Pay Range
USD $83,000.00 - USD $108,000.00 /Yr.
