Job description

The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a Regional Transmission Lead to support the continued growth and development of electric transmission projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

The successful candidate will bring a strong technical background and demonstrated leadership experience supporting electric transmission projects for utilities and developers. This strategic role will focus on developing and maintaining client relationships, leading business development efforts, and coordinating multidisciplinary environmental and engineering teams to successfully execute transmission and energy projects.

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position and is eligible for hybrid or remote work arrangements.

 

Location: Mid-Atlantic Region VA, MD, PA, NJ, DE, WV  (Hybrid / Remote Eligible)

Essential Job Functions:

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and grow a multi-level, multidisciplinary team focused on routing, siting, planning, permitting, and compliance for electric transmission projects
  • Identify market trends and collaborate with Energy Program Leads to support long-term transmission market strategy and client development
  • Supervise, mentor, and support project managers, scientists, engineers, and field staff
  • Promote and support Tetra Tech's Health & Safety culture and implementation
  • Build and motivate project teams to successfully meet project goals, schedules, and deliverables
  • Support business development efforts through collaboration and intercompany relationship building

Project Execution & Quality Management

  • Establish expectations for project execution and maintain accountability for achieving program goals
  • Serve as Senior Project Manager or Technical Advisor on complex transmission and energy projects
  • Lead proposal development, cost estimating, technical strategy development, and project execution
  • Support oversight of field-based staff and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Refine and standardize program delivery approaches, tools, and processes across projects
  • Provide subject matter expertise for major regional and national projects
  • Share lessons learned and best practices across programs and project teams
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control processes to ensure consistency and technical rigor

Business Development

  • Collaborate with existing Tetra Tech account managers to grow and expand client relationships
  • Develop and maintain new transmission sector clients and opportunities
  • Support profitability goals through strategic budgeting, scoping, and contract management
  • Assist in building and growing a high-performing transmission routing, siting, and permitting team
  • Participate in business development activities including:
    • Proposal preparation
    • Technical presentations
    • Trade shows and conferences
    • Client meetings
    • Marketing material development
  • Collaborate nationally across Tetra Tech practices to support project delivery and team development
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering-related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering, permitting, and/or compliance related to transmission projects
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience, including:
    • Supervising professionals and field staff
    • Budget and schedule management
    • Oversight of technical reporting and project execution
  • Established relationships with federal and state agencies and industry clients
  • Recognized subject matter expertise within transmission-related services
  • Experience leading meetings with clients, agencies, and stakeholders
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary project teams and subcontractors
  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to:
    • Environmental resources
    • Natural resources
    • Cultural resources
  • Experience supporting:
    • Electric transmission projects
    • Renewable energy development
    • Energy storage projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and budget management skills
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Experience with Independent System Operators (ISOs)
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or MBA
  • Experience with renewable generation and transmission infrastructure projects
  • Experience managing distributed employees and large multidisciplinary teams

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel to project sites, client meetings, and field locations as needed
  • Ability to work in office, remote, and field environments

  • Hybrid and remote eligible position within the Mid-Atlantic region

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $160,000-$180,000 annually

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
