What is a Remote Injection Molding job?

A Remote Injection Molding job involves overseeing and managing the injection molding process from a remote location. This can include monitoring machine performance, troubleshooting issues, optimizing production efficiency, and ensuring quality control through digital tools and automation. Professionals in this role typically use remote monitoring software, AI-driven analytics, and real-time communication with on-site teams. It allows manufacturers to maintain high-quality production while reducing the need for on-site presence.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of someone working in Remote Injection Molding?

Professionals in Remote Injection Molding are typically responsible for monitoring production runs, analyzing process data, troubleshooting mold or machine issues, and coordinating with on-site operators to ensure quality standards are met. This role often involves reviewing CAD designs, optimizing molding parameters, and providing remote guidance or recommendations for process improvements. Regular virtual meetings with engineering and manufacturing teams facilitate collaborative problem-solving and project updates. As remote technology expands, this position allows for impactful contributions to the production process while offering flexibility in work location.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Injection Molding position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Remote Injection Molding role, you need a thorough understanding of plastic manufacturing processes, mold design, quality control, and typically a degree in engineering or related technical field. Experience with CAD/CAM software, manufacturing execution systems (MES), and certifications like RJG or Scientific Molding are often required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills help candidates stand out. These competencies are vital for ensuring product quality, efficient production, and successful collaboration in a geographically distributed environment.

Job description

About Atomic Industries
Atomic Industries is reinventing how the world makes things. From cars and aerospace systems to medical devices and packaging, most physical goods begin life in a mold or are shaped by a manufacturing tool. Producing these tools has always been slow, manual, and dependent on scarce expertise, taking weeks or months. We're changing that.
At our Detroit headquarters, we combine the industrial DNA of America's manufacturing heartland with the speed, intelligence, and precision of Silicon Valley. Our AI-driven platform tackles the hardest problems in geometry, process planning, and fabrication, collapsing production timelines from months to days and soon, minutes. We don't just build software; we run a fully operational factory where our technology produces production-grade tooling every week, enabling tight feedback loops and rapid iteration.
Backed by top-tier investors, we're restoring speed, flexibility, and capability to the American industrial base. Our mission is to make manufacturing as agile and scalable as the digital world, and in doing so, rebuild the infrastructure of the physical economy.
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically savvy Injection Molding Cost Estimator to support quoting, pricing strategy, and business development. This role bridges engineering, tooling, and operations-turning customer RFQs into clear, competitive, and accurate proposals.
You'll analyze part geometry, material specs, mold complexity, and production volumes to model cost scenarios and recommend pricing strategies aligned with Atomic's margin goals and value proposition.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze RFQs, part files, prints, and customer requirements
  • Estimate complete part cost: material, cycle time, labor, machine time, overhead, and secondary ops
  • Quote mold/tooling costs using internal templates and inputs from tooling team
  • Identify and model different pricing strategies: full tool cost, subsidized tooling, or tooling at cost
  • Work with Sales and Engineering to create compelling proposals and timelines
  • Track historical data and build cost models that improve over time
  • Assist in evaluating "free tool" models based on volume and piece price tradeoffs
  • Collaborate with the software team to help automate cost modeling and quoting workflows
  • Support profitability analysis and pricing revisions as part of commercial negotiations
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of cost estimating experience in injection molding, tool & die, or manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing cost structures: material, machine rates, overhead, labor
  • Familiar with part costing software (e.g., Excel models, aPriori, ProEst, or similar tools)
  • Able to read 2D prints and interpret 3D CAD models
  • Excellent Excel/Sheets skills; experience with quoting databases and CRM tools a plus
  • Bonus: Exposure to mold design, tooling build, or engineering change quoting
  • Bonus: Experience pricing in automotive, consumer goods, or medical molding industries
What You'll Get
  • Competitive pay, benefits, and equity opportunity
  • Direct input into quoting workflows that connect engineering and sales
  • A front-row seat in building smarter, faster quoting systems through software and data
  • Ability to influence customer relationships and drive strategic decisions
