Job description

Job Title: Data Engineer (Linux, GCP, Globus)
Location: Rochester, NY
Remote (Y/N): Yes (but preference is local profiles)
Duration: 9 Months

Job Description: The contractor will support the implementation, configuration, and operationalization of Globus Managed File Transfer (MFT) platform within a GCP-hosted Data DMZ environment. Responsibilities include completing Globus Connect Server deployment, configuring storage gateways and data transfer workflows, and onboarding research users while providing Tier 1/2 operational support. The role will focus on managing large-scale, secure data transfers, maintaining platform health, optimizing performance, and ensuring compliance with security and governance standards (HIPAA, NIST, Zero-Trust). The contractor will work closely with internal teams and stakeholders to establish operational processes, support production readiness, and deliver documentation and knowledge transfer to enable long-term ownership by the Enterprise Interfaces team. 
Required Skills: 
- 3+ years Globus platform experience (GCS v5, endpoints, collections) 
- Strong GCP (Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, IAM, networking) 
- Linux system administration and scripting (Bash) 
- Understanding of GridFTP and high-throughput data transfers 
- Experience with networking, security, and Zero-Trust principles 
- Background in MFT or large-scale data transfer environments
