What is a remote furniture designer?

A Remote Furniture Designer is a professional who creates furniture concepts, designs, and renderings while working from a location outside of a traditional office or studio. They use digital design tools and collaborate with clients, manufacturers, and other team members online. This role often involves creating technical drawings, 3D models, and presentations, ensuring that the designs are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Remote Furniture Designers must be skilled in design software and effective at communicating virtually to bring their ideas to life.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote furniture designer?

To thrive as a Remote Furniture Designer, you need strong skills in design principles, spatial visualization, and proficiency in CAD software, typically supported by a degree in industrial or furniture design. Familiarity with digital rendering tools like SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite is standard, and knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes is advantageous. Creativity, self-motivation, and effective virtual communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with clients and teams remotely. These skills and qualities enable designers to produce innovative, functional pieces and manage projects efficiently from a distance.

How does a remote furniture designer effectively collaborate with clients and team members during the design process?

Remote furniture designers typically use digital collaboration tools such as 3D modeling software, video conferencing, and project management platforms to work closely with clients and team members. Regular virtual meetings, shared mood boards, and real-time feedback on design drafts help ensure clear communication and alignment on project goals. Designers also often share prototypes and technical drawings digitally for review, making adaptability and strong communication skills crucial for success in a remote environment.

Job description

Creative. Collaborative. Curious. Design-minded.

At Loll Designs, thoughtful design is at the heart of what we do. From the products we create to the way we tell our story.

We're looking for a Marketing Designer to bring the Loll brand to life through compelling visual communication across digital, print, campaigns, events, and other brand experiences.

You'll partner with the marketing team and others across the organization to turn ideas, products, and marketing objectives into creative work that feels distinctly Loll. More than making things look good, you'll help communicate who we are, what we stand for, and why our story matters.

Our Story

At Loll Designs, we create modern outdoor furniture designed to bring people together while doing better for the planet. Through thoughtful design, sustainable materials, and meaningful relationships, we aim to enhance people, the planet, and our company in everything we do.

We believe our team members are at the core of our culture, creativity, and continued growth. We value people who are curious, collaborative, solutions-oriented, and excited to contribute to something bigger.

Come lollygag with us.

What You'll Find Here

A collaborative, design-driven environment where creativity, curiosity, and thoughtful problem-solving are valued.

As a Marketing Designer, you'll have the opportunity to work across a wide variety of projects and channels while helping shape how customers experience the Loll brand. From campaign concepts and product storytelling to digital experiences, print materials, events, and sales tools, your work will have visibility throughout the organization and marketplace.

You'll partner with marketing team members, internal stakeholders, and external creative partners while having the autonomy to manage projects, contribute ideas, and help move creative work from concept through execution.

Loll Designs Offers a Competitive Benefits Package Including, but Not Limited To:

  • Quarterly profit sharing/bonus opportunities
  • Health insurance (medical/dental/vision) eligible on day one
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Tuition reimbursement for continuing education
  • Company-paid short-term and long-term disability
  • Paid vacation and holidays
  • Wellness support and professional development opportunities
  • Fun company-wide activities

Compensation

Base Salary: $50,000–$55,000 annually

Total Compensation: Approximately $65,000–$70,000 annually, including profit sharing

This position is eligible to participate in our QUEST quarterly profit-sharing bonus program. Historically, QUEST payouts have averaged approximately 29% of base salary, which would equate to approximately $15,000 annually for this role based on the salary range above.

When earned, profit-sharing bonuses are paid quarterly in the month following each quarter. Payouts are based on company performance.

Work Arrangement

Remote, with occasional travel to our Duluth, MN headquarters a few times per year.

Candidates located within a few hours of Duluth will receive preferred consideration.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Design and produce compelling creative assets across digital and traditional channels, including digital advertising, social media, email, web, sales collateral, presentations, events, trade shows, and print.
  • Bring integrated marketing campaigns to life by translating objectives, products, ideas, and stories into engaging visual communications
  • Apply and help strengthen Loll's visual identity and brand standards across customer and employee-facing communications.
  • Partner with marketing and cross-functional teams to develop creative concepts, recommendations, and solutions that support brand awareness, engagement, and business objectives.
  • Design and optimize digital creative for different platforms, devices, formats, and audiences.
  • Prepare high-quality, production-ready files for digital and print distribution while ensuring accuracy and brand consistency.
  • Manage multiple creative projects from concept through completion, balancing priorities, stakeholder feedback, quality, and deadlines.
  • Present design concepts and creative rationale to stakeholders and thoughtfully incorporate feedback.
  • Coordinate with agencies, printers, vendors, photographers, freelancers, and other external creative partners while maintaining organized creative files and brand assets.
  • Evaluate creative performance, stay current on design trends and technologies, and identify opportunities to improve creative processes, templates, workflows, and asset management.

What Helps You Thrive

  • Strong visual design skills with a thoughtful approach to typography, layout, composition, color, and imagery, with the ability to translate ideas and marketing objectives into compelling visual communications
  • Strong creative judgment and an understanding of how design supports broader brand and business goals
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to work across teams, receive creative direction and feedback, and clearly communicate the thinking behind design decisions
  • Self-starter mentality with strong organization and attention to detail, including the ability to independently manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
  • Curious and adaptable, with an interest in continually improving creative work, processes, and approaches
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Marketing, Visual Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • 3+ years of professional graphic design experience, preferably supporting marketing, brand, or integrated campaign initiatives
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Lightroom
  • Experience designing for digital and print environments, including email campaigns, digital marketing, and social media, with an understanding of email design and layout best practices and print production requirements
  • Familiarity with web design principles, content management systems, and collaborative design tools such as Figma & Miro; experience with video/motion graphics, email marketing, photography, or B2B/product-focused organizations is a plus

A portfolio or link to a portfolio demonstrating strong digital design work is required for consideration.

Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.

If you are a thoughtful designer who takes initiative, collaborates naturally, and is excited about helping tell the story of a design-driven brand, we'd welcome the opportunity to connect with you.
