Remote Expense Management information

What is remote expense management?

Remote expense management refers to the process of tracking, submitting, approving, and reimbursing business expenses from anywhere, without needing to be physically present in an office. This approach typically uses digital tools or software platforms that allow employees to upload receipts, fill out expense reports, and managers to review and approve expenses online. It is especially useful for companies with remote teams or employees who travel frequently. Remote expense management helps increase efficiency, reduce paperwork, and maintain accurate financial records.

What are some common challenges faced by remote expense management professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Remote expense management professionals often encounter challenges such as ensuring timely submission and approval of employee expenses, maintaining compliance with company policies, and effectively communicating with team members across different locations and time zones. To address these challenges, it's important to use robust expense management software, establish clear processes, and maintain regular communication with both employees and finance teams. Proactively reaching out for clarification and staying organized can greatly enhance accuracy and efficiency in this remote role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote expense management, and why are they important?

To excel in Remote Expense Management, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a background in finance or accounting, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with expense management software such as Concur or Expensify, and proficiency in spreadsheet tools like Excel, are typically required. Excellent organizational skills, written communication, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for managing workflows and collaborating remotely. These competencies ensure accurate tracking, compliance, and efficient handling of company expenses in a distributed work environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage legal matters from intake through resolution.

  • Draft legal documents such as pleadings, correspondence, and discovery, and support court filings.

  • Support discovery, document production, legal research, and trial preparation.

Job description

About the Opportunity
Equivity is seeking an experienced Remote Paralegal with recent law firm experience supporting at least two of the following practice areas: civil litigation, personal injury, employment law, criminal law, commercial litigation, or family law.

This is an assignment-based opportunity designed for paralegals who value the flexibility of remote work and enjoy supporting a variety of law firms and matters across the country. As client needs evolve, assignments and workload may vary based on business demand. This role is a good fit for an experienced paralegal who values professional flexibility and is comfortable with a workload that can fluctuate rather than requiring a guaranteed number of weekly hours from the outset.

When actively supporting clients, responsiveness is important. Because client needs can arise on short notice, paralegals are expected to remain responsive to their active clients and Equivity managers within one hour during their stated availability.

If you're an experienced paralegal who appreciates autonomy, remote flexibility, and the opportunity to work with multiple legal teams, this assignment-based model may be a strong fit.

Responsibilities May Include
  • Managing matters from intake through resolution
  • Drafting pleadings, correspondence, discovery, and other legal documents
  • Preparing and submitting state and federal court filings
  • Supporting discovery, document production, legal research, and trial preparation
  • Maintaining case calendars and tracking court, discovery, and client deadlines
  • Scheduling hearings, depositions, mediations, meetings, and trials
  • Communicating professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, vendors, and other legal professionals
  • Monitoring case progress and anticipating attorney needs
  • Adapting to different attorney workflows, practice areas, and case-management systems

We Are Looking For
  • Must reside in the United States
  • At least three years of recent law firm paralegal experience
  • Substantive experience in at least two of the following areas:
    • Civil litigation
    • Personal injury
    • Employment law
    • Criminal law
    • Commercial litigation
    • Family law
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least 20 hours of weekly availability for potential assignments
  • Strong legal writing, organization, communication, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities remotely
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal software
  • Experience with Clio is preferred
  • Access to a reliable computer and internet connection; a Windows-based computer is preferred
  • Ability to respond within one hour during stated availability

Compensation and Work Structure
  • W-2 employment
  • Compensation: $26 per hour
  • Remote, assignment-based work
  • Assignments are determined by client demand, experience, qualifications, and availability
  • Assignment volume and working hours may vary
  • Client assignments may take time to develop and are not guaranteed immediately upon joining
  • Benefits eligibility may depend on employment status and applicable plan requirements

Why Join Equivity?
At Equivity, you will join a nationwide team of experienced legal professionals supporting attorneys and law firms across the country. You will receive ongoing support from Equivity’s operations and leadership teams while performing substantive legal work in your areas of experience.

Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid sick time
  • Annual performance bonus
  • 6-month performance review with potential pay increase
  • Expense reimbursement
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Supportive long-term remote work environment
