The Workday Configuration Analyst is responsible for the configuration, enhancement, optimization, and governance of Workday and related HR technology solutions. This role serves as a technical consultant to HR business partners and stakeholders, translating complex business requirements into scalable system configurations and processes. This role also supports the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and enhancement of HR systems and related processes to deliver a positive user experience.

This position is best suited for candidates with direct Workday configuration experience. Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to end-user support, ticket management, reporting, or HR operations administration may not possess the level of technical configuration expertise required for this role.

Please note that we are also desiring a candidate who has Workday Payroll experience for Canada as this person will have responsibility for this function on the team.

This position reports into the Director of HR Technology.

Location:

This role is approved for remote work in the United States or out of Ferguson's corporate offices in Newport News, VA. East coast working hours, 8-5 p.m.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and maintain Workday business processes, condition rules, calculated fields, security, notifications, and related tenant configurations to support evolving business needs.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and provide consultation to stakeholders regarding Workday functionality, configuration decisions, and process design.

  • Lead configuration, testing, validation, and deployment activities for Workday enhancements, releases, and module implementations

  • Resolve complex issues that have been escalated from our Support Team

  • Create and maintain standard and ad hoc HR reports and dashboards to support business needs.

  • Perform data audits to ensure HR data integrity and compliance with policies and regulations.

  • Document system processes, workflows, and user procedures.

  • Partner with HR and IT teams to gather requirements for system updates or process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Workday in an analyst and/or configuration role as a full time worker at a large organization that uses Workday.

  • Hands-on Workday configuration experience in one or more functional areas including Absence, Time Tracking, and Payroll.

  • Experience configuring and maintaining business processes, condition rules, notifications, reports, calculated fields, and security.

  • Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into system solutions.

  • Experience supporting large-scale Workday environments with multiple stakeholder groups.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple concurrent projects, enhancements, and production support activities.

  • Work with external vendors or consultants as needed to resolve technical issues or support projects.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to handle various tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to explain technical information clearly to non-technical users.

  • Proficiency with Excel and reporting tools for data analysis.

  • Collaborative and customer-focused approach to working with HR teams, IT, and vendors.

  • Experience supporting a large, distributed, or multi-state organization preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred or equivalent experience.
