Job description

At Smart Commercial Construction, we combine thoughtful design, craftsmanship, and clear communication to create exceptional spaces. Using a collaborative and client-focused approach, we work to understand each clientโ€™s vision and bring it to life through quality design and construction.

The BIM Drafter plays a key role in supporting the planning, visualization, and production of light commercial, remodels, custom homes, and multifamily projects. This position is responsible for developing accurate 3D BIM models, construction drawings, and rendered visualizations using Revit as the primary production platform, while collaborating closely with the design team, project managers, trade contractors, and clients throughout the design process.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple active projects while maintaining high standards for drawing accuracy, constructability, and document quality. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to be involved in all phases of design development, including client collaboration, plan revisions, code coordination, field verification, and emerging construction technology tools such as Matterport, Hover, and digital layout equipment.

PAY & WAGE STRUCTURE:

The BIM Drafter is a full-time, year-round position, with pay commensurate with experience and abilities.

PERKS & BENEFITS:

We are dedicated to supporting the well-being and professional growth of our employees through a comprehensive benefits package. This includes paid time off, holidays, and paid parental leave, along with health coverage (group health, dental, and vision insurance), and financial security (401k with company match, accident, critical illness, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and life insurance). We also value work-life balance and understand the importance of maintaining time for family, personal commitments, and life outside of work. Additionally, we foster a sense of community with company Christmas parties and summer get-togethers, and offer employee referral bonuses. Our commitment to internal advancement ensures ongoing career growth and stability for our team.

HOURS & SHIFTS:

Our standard work week is 40โ€“45 hours, Monday through Friday, in the office. Occasional work-from-home opportunities may be available once the employee is fully familiar with the role.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Assist in developing accurate 3D BIM models, rendered views, and construction drawing sets for remodels, light commercial, custom homes, and multifamily projects using Revit and related design software.

  • Maintain drawing accuracy, dimensional coordination, construction document standards, and efficiently incorporate plan revisions and redline markups throughout all project phases.

  • Support the design process by participating in client meetings, reviewing design options, gathering feedback, and helping clients visualize projects through renderings and 3D presentations.

  • Apply working knowledge of residential and light commercial construction methods, materials, building codes, zoning ordinances, and industry standards to produce accurate and buildable drawings.

  • Utilize Revit as the primary production platform, with working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu, SketchUp, Microsoft Office Suite, and rendering software such as Enscape or D5 Render preferred.

  • Assist with field verification and project support tasks, including building scans using Hover and Matterport, and occasional use of digital layout equipment. Training will be provided where applicable.

  • Maintain strong attention to detail while managing multiple active projects, meeting deadlines, quality checking work for accuracy, and communicating professionally with design team members, project managers, trade contractors, and clients.

  • Associate degree or technical certificate in drafting or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated work experience preferred.
