The Opportunity

The Manager, Technical Affairs role will work out of our Lake Forest, IL (in Conway Park) location or remote (near an Abbott office) in the Abbott Diagnostics Division.

Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

As Manager, Technical Affairs, you will provide technical leadership and customer support for Abbott Diagnostic Division (ADD) assays and systems, with a primary focus on the Americas. You will serve as a key bridge between customers and internal teams, helping drive customer satisfaction, product performance, and continuous improvement. The person hired in this role will be responsible for leadership and technical support for customer topics and issues involving ADD assays and systems. This role has a global span; however, a specific regional focus is the Americas.

This role requires an excellent working relationship with ADD Technical, Quality and Commercial functions and Customers. The position provides an essential link between Operations Technical Support and the Customer for technical discussions and feedback. The position drives Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty through partnership with ADD functions and the Customer. The position involves direct contact with the customer and provides opportunity to know what customers want and provide timely feedback of assay and system performance and customer expectations to Marketing, Quality and Technical functions using the Quality System where appropriate.

What You'll Work On

  • Lead technical and scientific support for diagnostic assays and systems across key customer accounts.

  • Partner with Commercial, Quality, Service, Marketing, and Technical teams to address customer needs and resolve complex issues.

  • Build strong relationships with customers and key opinion leaders (KOLs).

  • Support customer-focused initiatives, strategic projects, and commercial opportunities.

  • Provide technical expertise for tenders, customer requests, and product performance discussions.

  • Gather and communicate customer feedback to help improve products, services, and customer experience.

  • Develop strategies and action plans to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.

  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and support continuous improvement efforts.

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor and advocate for customer needs across the organization.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in science, medicine or engineering

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of successful experience in a related quality, technical or operations Diagnostics discipline

  • Or A science qualification with 15 years of successful experience in a related quality, technical or operations Diagnostics discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Science (PH. D)

  • Candidates near an Abbott Office location or willing to travel frequently for meetings on site.

  • Customer facing experience in past roles is ideal

  • Assay Technical Knowledge

  • Experience working directly with customers and cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, influence stakeholders, and drive results.

  • Strong judgment, initiative, organizational skills, and a customer-focused mindset.

  • At least 4 years of experience in similar division/company/field

  • Willing to travel up to 10% if needed Globally or locally

  • Strong technical and scientific expertise in diagnostics or related healthcare technologies.
