As Director, Enterprise Data Governance, you'll help mature the enterprise governance capabilities that ensure CFA Institute's data is secure, well-managed, and ready to power analytics, AI, and strategic decision-making. The Director, Enterprise Data Governance is responsible for establishing, operationalizing, and continuously improving CFA Institute's enterprise data governance program. This role ensures that data across the organization is accurate, trusted, secure, well-defined, and aligned with business and regulatory requirements.

The Director translates enterprise data strategy into executable governance frameworks, standards, controls, and operating models. The role partners closely with Data Engineering, Analytics, Cybersecurity, Legal, and business data owners to embed governance into day-to-day operations. This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role requiring deep expertise in data governance frameworks, data quality management, metadata management, regulatory alignment, and cross-functional program execution.

The position may be based in eligible jurisdictions in the Eastern time zone in the United States and reports to the Senior Head, Enterprise Data & Analytics. It is eligible for hybrid/remote work arrangements.

What You'll Do

Enterprise Data Governance Framework & Operating Model

  • Design, implement, and mature the enterprise data governance framework aligned with the enterprise data strategy.

  • Establish clear data ownership, stewardship, and accountability models across domains.

  • Define and operationalize policies, standards, and procedures for: data classification, data quality, metadata management, master and reference data, data lifecycle management.

  • Lead and coordinate enterprise data governance councils and working groups.

  • Drive adoption of governance processes across business and technology teams.

Data Quality & Control Environment

  • Establish enterprise data quality standards and measurable KPIs.

  • Implement data quality monitoring, issue remediation workflows, and root cause analysis processes.

  • Partner with Data Engineering to embed controls within data pipelines and architecture.

  • Develop data quality dashboards and executive reporting to support informed decision-making.

  • Ensure governance controls are embedded within the data lake and enterprise data platforms.

Regulatory, Risk & Compliance Alignment (Data-Focused)

  • Ensure alignment of data governance practices with applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., privacy regulations, financial reporting controls, records retention standards).

  • Partner with Information Security and Privacy teams to ensure data classification and protection controls are enforced.

  • Support audit readiness for data-related controls and remediation tracking.

  • Identify and mitigate data-related risks through formal governance processes.

  • Define and track key risk indicators (KRIs) specific to enterprise data.

Metadata, Lineage & Data Transparency

  • Implement enterprise metadata management standards.

  • Drive data catalog adoption and business glossary development.

  • Establish data lineage and traceability standards across critical data domains.

  • Improve transparency and trust in data used for analytics, reporting, and operational decision-making.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Change Management

  • Collaborate with:

    • Data Engineering

    • Analytics & Data Science

    • IT Architecture

    • Information Security

    • Legal & Privacy

    • Finance and operational business units

  • Develop and deliver training to data stewards and domain owners.

  • Champion a culture of data accountability and stewardship.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, Data Management, Computer Science, or related field.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • 8-12+ years of progressive experience in data governance, data management, or related enterprise data roles.

  • 5+ years leading governance programs or teams.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing enterprise data governance frameworks.

  • Experience supporting regulatory, audit, or compliance environments.

  • Experience with enterprise data platforms (e.g., cloud data lakes, Snowflake, Azure, AWS environments).

Preferred Certifications

  • CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional)

  • DAMA-DMBOK familiarity

  • CISA, CRISC, or related governance certifications (preferred but not required)

All salary ranges are subject to adjustment based on experience, education, and other factors relevant to the position.
