Job description

About the Team

Mixpanel's Customer Engineering team is a cross-functional group of highly technical problem solvers focused on driving customer outcomes across the full commercial lifecycle. Customer Engineers are the technical face of Mixpanel in the field - connecting prospect business problems to Mixpanel's technical capabilities, running sharp evaluations, and ensuring every customer who signs has a clear, fast path to value. The team works in close partnership with Account Executives on new business and expansion, and hands off to Delivery Engineers to own technical activation post-sale.

About the Role

The Customer Engineer owns the pre-sales technical journey - from discovery and technical fit assessment through competitive positioning, demo, and POC. You establish whether Mixpanel is the right technical fit before committing to a proof of concept, and when you do run one, you design it to be immediately actionable by the Delivery Engineer: focus metric defined, data validated, success criteria agreed upon. You also return post-sale for cross-sell and strategic expansion that requires a new technical evaluation. A great CE shows up researched, thinks in outcomes, leaves every interaction with more clarity than they walked in with, and treats handoff quality as a first-class output.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery, establishing the prospect's business challenges, technical environment, and qualification before committing to a POC.
  • Design and deliver tailored, research-backed demos that connect Mixpanel's capabilities to the prospect's specific business outcomes.
  • Establish technical fit - confirm the prospect's stack is a match and scope what a meaningful proof requires before the POC begins.
  • Own competitive technical positioning - be the definitive answer to why Mixpanel over Amplitude, PostHog, and warehouse-native alternatives.
  • Run tightly structured POCs with defined success criteria, a named focus metric, and a handoff package the Delivery Engineer can execute from immediately.
  • Return post-sale for cross-sell and strategic expansion requiring a new technical evaluation on a new surface or product.
  • Partner with Account Executives on deal strategy, technical objection handling, and expansion planning.
  • Stay close to Delivery Engineers to understand production realities - your POCs should reflect what actually works in production.

We're Looking For Someone Who Has

  • 3-5+ years of experience in Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, or a technical pre-sales role at a B2B SaaS company.
  • Technical foundation in data analytics, event tracking, APIs, data warehouses, or adjacent domains.
  • Commercial instinct - you understand that your job is to win deals and you orient your work accordingly.
  • Demonstrated ability to run structured POCs with defined success criteria and measurable outcomes.
  • Clear, compelling communication to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Competitive knowledge of the analytics landscape, or the ability to build it quickly.
  • Humble, hungry, smart, and accountable - these are the bar, not aspirations.
