The Team

Upstart is transforming how banks and credit unions build and manage consumer credit portfolios.

As Director, Consumer Credit Portfolio Solutions, you will partner with executive leaders at financial institutions to help them deploy capital into consumer lending assets through the Upstart Marketplace. You'll advise CEOs, CFOs, Chief Lending Officers, and investment leaders on how Upstart's marketplace can help them achieve their balance sheet, growth, and profitability objectives.

You'll develop strategic relationships with banks and credit unions, helping them expand across Personal Loans, HELOC, Indirect Auto, and future consumer credit products. Working closely with Product, Capital Markets, Finance, Legal, Marketing, and Operations, you'll help shape both partner strategy and Upstart's evolving marketplace.

This role requires someone who understands not only consumer lending, but also how financial institutions think about capital allocation, portfolio construction, risk-adjusted returns, liquidity, and growth.

How you'll make an impactDrive Marketplace Growth
  • Lead the execution of go-to-market initiatives across Personal Loans, HELOC, Indirect Auto, and future marketplace products.
  • Develop executive relationships with CEOs, CFOs, Chief Lending Officers, Chief Credit Officers, and investment leaders across banks and credit unions.
  • Grow marketplace originations through new institutional partnerships.
  • Lead complex commercial discussions.
  • Demonstrate how Upstart assets improve yield, diversify portfolios, increase customer/member acquisition, and support strategic growth initiatives.
  • Present portfolio analytics, return expectations, and marketplace trends to executive audiences.
Build a High Performing Commercial Organization
  • Recruit, coach, and develop a team of Consumer Credit Portfolio Account Executives.
  • Establish sales strategy, market coverage, territory design, and performance expectations.
  • Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer obsession.
  • Develop scalable commercial processes, executive messaging, account planning frameworks, and best practices that improve execution across the team.
Represent Upstart externally
  • Represent Upstart at industry conferences, executive forums, and trade associations.
  • Position Upstart as the leading marketplace for consumer credit assets.
  • Build long-term executive relationships throughout the banking and credit union ecosystem.
Minimum qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience working with banks or credit unions in strategic partnerships, institutional sales, capital markets, lending, or financial services.
  • Demonstrated success advising executive leaders on complex financial, lending, capital markets, or strategic partnership solutions.
  • Experience engaging executive decision makers including CEOs, CFOs, Chief Lending Officers, Chief Credit Officers, and Boards.
  • Strong understanding of consumer lending products including Personal Loans, HELOC, Auto Lending, or Mortgage.
  • Understanding of bank and credit union balance sheet management, capital deployment, portfolio strategy, or loan sales.
  • Excellent executive communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex organizations and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Self-starter who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Proven track record of developing and leading a go to market team.
Preferred qualifications
  • Existing executive relationships within regional banks and credit unions.
  • Experience with forward flow, whole loan sales, securitization, warehouse lending, or capital markets.
  • Understanding of risk-adjusted returns and consumer credit portfolio construction.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled lending and consumer credit analytics.

Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote 

Time zone requirements The team operates on the East/West coast time zones. 

Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions' cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.
