What is the difference between Remote Coordinator 1099 vs Remote Project Assistant?

AspectRemote Coordinator 1099Remote Project Assistant
CredentialsTypically requires organizational or project management certificationsOften requires administrative or project support experience
Work EnvironmentIndependent contractor working remotely for various clientsRemote support role, often within a team or organization
Employer/Industry UsageUsed across industries like healthcare, tech, and education as a freelance roleCommon in corporate, non-profit, and tech sectors as an employee or contractor

The main difference is that a Remote Coordinator 1099 works as an independent contractor managing projects remotely, often with specialized certifications, while a Remote Project Assistant typically provides administrative support remotely, usually as an employee or contractor within a team. Both roles are remote but differ in responsibilities and employment structure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Coordinator 1099, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Coordinator 1099, you need strong organizational abilities, time management skills, and experience in remote project coordination, typically supported by previous administrative or coordination roles. Familiarity with project management tools like Trello, Asana, or Slack, as well as proficiency in cloud-based document platforms, is often required. Exceptional written communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with dispersed teams and clients. These skills are crucial for ensuring productivity, clear communication, and seamless operations in a remote and independent work environment.

What is a Remote Coordinator 1099?

A Remote Coordinator 1099 is an independent contractor who manages and coordinates tasks, projects, or teams remotely, rather than working onsite. The '1099' refers to the IRS tax form used for independent contractors in the United States, indicating that the individual is not an employee but rather self-employed. Remote Coordinators often handle scheduling, communication, and project management duties for organizations or clients from a home office or another remote location. Their responsibilities may vary depending on the industry and client needs, but they typically require strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.

How does a Remote Coordinator 1099 typically collaborate with distributed teams and manage communication challenges?

As a Remote Coordinator working on a 1099 (independent contractor) basis, you will frequently interact with team members and clients who may be located across different time zones. Effective collaboration relies on clear, proactive communication through digital tools like email, project management platforms, and video conferencing. One common challenge is ensuring everyone stays aligned and informed without the benefit of in-person interactions, so strong organizational skills and a willingness to adapt to various communication styles are essential. Building strong relationships and setting regular check-ins can help overcome these hurdles and keep projects on track.

Job description

Salary: $18-20 per event

Treatment Coordinator (1099 Contract)

Department: Clinical Operations

Employment Status: 1099 Independent Contractor

Location: Remote

Compensation: Per event (see Compensation section)

Job Summary

Trusted Results Therapy Group, a CARF accredited behavioral health practice serving clients across South Carolina, is contracting Masters level Treatment Plan Coordinators to support our clinical team with documentation deliverables. This is a fully remote, 1099 per event role ideal for Masters level professionals with strong clinical writing skills who want flexible contract work outside of direct client care. Coordinators in this role do not carry a clinical caseload and do not provide therapy. Instead, they translate the clinicians existing Diagnostic Assessment and FIRPP notes into compliant, well written treatment plans and assessments on a per event basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Draft and update Individual Plans of Care (IPOCs) using clinician completed Diagnostic Assessments and FIRPP notes
  • Complete Child and Family Team (CFT) documentation
  • Complete CALOCUS assessments
  • Administer and score standardized assessment questionnaires as needed, including PHQ 9, GAD 7, and similar measures
  • Engage in minimal collaboration with clients, families, and clinicians as needed to complete documentation accurately
  • Maintain compliance with CARF, SC Medicaid, and payer documentation standards
  • Document all work in the EHR system
  • Meet assigned deadlines and turnaround expectations on a per event basis

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a human services field (Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology strongly preferred)
  • Strong clinical writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote environment
  • Comfort working in an electronic health record system
  • Reliable laptop and secure internet connection

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CALOCUS certification (TRTG will provide a certification path for qualified candidates who are not yet certified)
  • Prior experience writing treatment plans, IPOCs, or CFTs
  • Familiarity with SC Medicaid and CARF documentation standards
  • Prior experience with behavioral health EHR systems

Note: This is a documentation focused role. Active clinical licensure is not required and not preferred for this position. Licensed clinicians seeking direct client care roles should apply to our open clinician postings instead.

Compensation

This is a 1099 per event contract role. Rates are paid per completed and accepted deliverable:

  • CALOCUS assessments: $40 per assessment
  • IPOCs, CFTs, assessment questionnaires, and other plan events: $18 per event

Volume is flexible and based on practice need and contractor availability.

Work Environment

100 percent remote. Contractors set their own hours within deadline expectations and are responsible for their own equipment, workspace, and tax obligations as independent contractors.
