Duties
Help
  • Performs a full range of simple cooking. Preparing/cooking items that require little/no processing. Prepares hot cereals and concentrated or rehydrated soups, sauces and gravies. Makes cold sandwich fillings. Sets up and replenishes salad bar.
  • Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, breading. Weighs, measures, assembles, and mixes ingredients according to recipes. Covers, dates, stores leftovers according to procedures.
  • Operates a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam, microwave. Disassembles, cleans, assembles component parts and accessories. Uses and cleans a variety of cooking utensils to measure, weigh, and process food items.
  • Cleans, stores, maintains equipment and all work areas, such as worktables, floors, walk-in refrigerators. Follows established sanitation procedures when handling food. Ensures foods are stored at the correct temperatures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Incumbent must be willing and able to operate, disassemble and clean basic food service equipment such as griddles, broilers, and food grinders.
  • Incumbent must be able to follow written and verbal instructions, particularly standard recipes, and detailed cooking instructions.
  • Incumbent must be able to perform basic arithmetic (e.g., add, subtract, multiply etc.) to measure ingredients in a recipe.
  • Working Conditions: Employee is exposed to steam, fumes, odors from cooking, and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezing units. Must stand on tile floor, subject to burns, cuts, and slipping on wet floors.
  • Physical Effort: Work involves continual standing and walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Must be able to lift 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance.

Allowances and Differentials
  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
