What is a Remote Consensus specialist?

A Remote Consensus specialist is a professional responsible for facilitating agreement and decision-making among distributed teams or stakeholders, often in virtual or remote work environments. Their role involves using communication tools, collaboration platforms, and structured processes to help groups reach consensus on key decisions. They may design and lead online meetings, manage virtual voting or polling, and ensure that every participant's voice is heard. This role is especially important in organizations that operate remotely or have geographically dispersed teams, as it helps maintain alignment and effective collaboration.

How do team members in a Remote Consensus role effectively collaborate and make decisions when working from different locations?

In a Remote Consensus role, collaboration and decision-making are facilitated through regular virtual meetings, shared digital workspaces, and clear communication protocols. Team members typically use video conferencing and collaboration tools to discuss issues, gather input, and work toward consensus on important decisions. Effective remote consensus-building relies on transparency, active participation, and well-defined workflows to ensure everyone’s voice is heard, even across different time zones. This setup encourages inclusivity and helps maintain alignment despite the physical distance.

Job description

How you will impact the organization...

We are seeking a technical leader to drive the implementation for our next-generation eCommerce and customer experience platform. This role is pivotal in shifting our engineering strategy from monolithic applications to a flexible, scalable, and distributed web ecosystem. The Senior Engineer will not only contribute to the design of the core foundation that hosts independent applications but also enable the multi-year technical strategy that empowers autonomous product teams to develop, deploy, and manage features independently. This position requires expert-level domain knowledge to bridge the gap between complex infrastructure and seamless user experience.

The value you will deliver...

  • Architectural Strategy & Vision: Enable the high-level architecture and implementation of a highly scalable, distributed front-end ecosystem, utilizing modern modular architecture patterns to host independent functional applications.
  • Platform Engineering: Design and implement core platform services (Identity, Account, App Configuration, Entitlements ) that serve as the foundation for all product teams, ensuring a unified and resilient customer experience.
  • Technical Standardization: Define and enforce strict coding standards, application lifecycle contracts, and integration patterns to ensure application isolation and memory optimization across the system.
  • Cross-Team Leadership: Influence multiple product teams by establishing  shared APIs product platforms
  • Performance & Scalability: Drive architectural improvements that ensure the platform remains performant, responsive, eliminating bottlenecks associated with large volume product client applications.
  • Mentorship & Code Fluency: Serve as the technical authority for engineers; mentor senior engineers, review complex technical designs, and solve the deepest coding/debugging challenges related to state management and asynchronous loading, and coding standards.
  • DevOps & CI/CD Integration: Collaborate with DevOps to implement compliance-based deployment strategies that allow for atomic rollouts and instant rollbacks without requiring full platform regression testing.
  • Build vs. Buy: Conduct strategic evaluations for new technologies and tools to improve developer velocity and long-term code health.
  • Contribute to the technical recruitment process to identify top-tier engineering talent.
  • Write high-level technical documentation and white papers to communicate design decisions to executive stakeholders and non-technical audiences.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between product management and engineering to ensure feasibility of roadmap items.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested. Consensus reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

What you will bring to the table...

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on high-scale web applications.
  • 8+ years design experience with a mastery of Java, Spring Frameworks, SQL, React, MFE, and modern frameworks with deep experience in component design and performance optimization.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional technical initiatives or platform re-architecture projects.
  • Proven experience establishing engineering best practices, code quality standards, and technical roadmaps across multiple teams.
  • Leveraging AI tools like Q, Co-Pilot, Kiro, Claude to accelerate design and development.
  • Proven track record of reducing technical debt or improving developer velocity through redesign.
  • Strategic Influence: Ability to support multi-year technical strategy and influence direction across teams without direct authority.
  • Problem Solving: Proactively identifies systemic risks (e.g., single points of failure) and designs solutions to mitigate them before they impact productivity.
  • Communication: Expert capability in communicating complex design & architectural topics (whiteboarding systems with drill-down capability) to both engineering teams and executive leadership.
  • Autonomy: Takes ownership of significant, multi-team projects and drives them to completion with high standards for quality and detail.
  • Distributed Systems Architecture: Deep understanding of techniques for splitting code across distributed systems, lazy loading, and runtime integration.
  • Infrastructure & API: Experience designing secure API gateways, handling authentication, and managing complex data flow between client and server.

You will stand out if you also have...

  • Experience working in regulated industries such as Legal, Healthcare, or FinTech.
  • Familiarity with legacy protocols (e.g., Fax, SIP) or bridging legacy systems with modern web interfaces.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes).

Additional details...

  • Location requirements: Fully remote within the U.S. (Los Angeles or Las Vegas preferred.)
  • Travel requirements: Up to 10% travel.
  • Physical requirements: Must be able to sit for long periods, as well as, handle long periods of screen time.
  • Technology requirements: Reliable, high speed internet.
  • Eligible for sponsorship: No.
