The Opportunity with McKinstry 

We are adding aCommodity Managerto our growing Offsite Manufacturing division in Spokane, WA. The Commodity Manager supports the procurement, sourcing, and strategic management of specific goods and services within McKinstry's Offsite Manufacturing department. This role partners cross functionally with Engineering, Production, Finance, and Procurement to develop and inform sourcing strategies, optimize supply chain performance, and support alignment with organizational priorities. Through supplier evaluation, market insight, and data driven recommendations, the Commodity Manager influences cost efficiency, operational effectiveness, and supply chain resilience across OSM. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Procurement and Sourcing: Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, lead and influence sourcing activities, and negotiate commercial terms. Conduct contract research and develop recommendations on pricing, lead times, and supplier selection in partnership with Quality and Value Stream leadership for final approval. 
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and recommend commodity specific sourcing strategies aligned to OSM and enterprise procurement direction. 
  • Market Analysis: Monitor commodity markets, global economic trends, and industry developments to make informed purchasing decisions.  
  • Inventory and Budget Management: Analyze inventory levels, production schedules, and budgets to support timely and cost-effective procurement.  
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Maintain positive relationships with vendors, evaluate supplier performance, and support compliance with organizational standards. Support supplier audits and qualification processes, partnering with Quality on approved vendor list decisions. 
  • Knowledge Sharing: Provide guidance and subject matter expertise to buyers, procurement specialists, and analysts; may mentor or support less experienced team members. 
  • Risk Mitigation: Develop strategies to manage price volatility, supply disruptions, and regulatory compliance. 

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, or a related field OR equivalent practical experience. 
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in procurement, purchasing, or commodity management, with demonstrated experience in technical or equipment-based sourcing environments. Manufacturing/modular construction industry experience preferred. 
  • Strong analytical skills as applied to forecasting, demand assessment, and pricing data evaluation. 
  • Proven negotiation skills with experience securing favorable supplier contracts. 
  • Industry Knowledge: Understand market dynamics, supply chain processes, and commodity-specific requirements.  
  • Effective cross-functional communication and collaboration skills. 
  • Proficiency in ERP/procurement systems and Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Preferred: CPSM, CSCP, or equivalent supply chain/procurement certification.

The pay range for this position is $84,240 - $130,680 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
