To thrive as a Remote Color Grading Specialist, you need a strong background in color theory, digital post-production, and visual storytelling, often supported by experience in film or video editing. Proficiency with color grading software such as DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Baselight, and familiarity with calibrated monitors and remote collaboration tools, is essential. Attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to interpret creative briefs are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These skills ensure consistency in visual quality and effective collaboration with clients and creative teams from a distance.

What is remote color grading?

Remote color grading is the process of adjusting and enhancing the colors of videos or images from a location different than where the original footage is stored or shot. Colorists use specialized software to collaborate with clients or teams over the internet, allowing them to review changes in real time or through uploaded files. This workflow has become popular due to its flexibility, enabling professionals to work with clients worldwide without needing to be physically present in the same studio. It requires high-speed internet and calibrated monitors to ensure color accuracy across locations.

Define Evaluation Standards
  • Help establish quality benchmarks and review criteria for video enhancement and super-resolution models.
  • Identify the visual characteristics that most strongly influence perceived quality and realism.

  • Assist in developing standardized reference sets for testing and comparison.
Provide Structured Feedback
  • Translate complex visual observations into clear, actionable feedback and evaluation documentation.
  • Contribute to annotation frameworks, reviewer guidelines, and quality assessment rubrics.
Collaborate with Research Teams
  • Work alongside AI researchers, engineers, and creative professionals to improve model evaluation methodologies.
  • Help refine quality metrics and human-review processes for visual AI systems.

Ideal Backgrounds
Professionals with experience in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to describe subtle visual characteristics precisely.
  • Fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal education or specialized training in film, visual effects, animation, photography, digital media, or a related discipline.
  • Experience conducting image quality reviews, dailies sessions, rendering reviews, or post-production quality control.

  • Experience creating quality standards, evaluation frameworks, or reviewer guidelines.

Why Join
