Remote Color Grading information

What are some common challenges faced by remote color grading professionals and how can they be addressed?

Remote color grading professionals often face challenges such as ensuring color accuracy across different display devices, managing large file transfers, and maintaining effective communication with clients and team members. To address these, it's important to calibrate monitors regularly, use reliable cloud storage or file transfer services, and establish clear feedback channels—such as video calls or collaborative review platforms. Staying organized and proactive about technical issues helps ensure smooth project delivery and client satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Color Grading Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Color Grading Specialist, you need a strong background in color theory, digital post-production, and visual storytelling, often supported by experience in film or video editing. Proficiency with color grading software such as DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Baselight, and familiarity with calibrated monitors and remote collaboration tools, is essential. Attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to interpret creative briefs are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These skills ensure consistency in visual quality and effective collaboration with clients and creative teams from a distance.

What is remote color grading?

Remote color grading is the process of adjusting and enhancing the colors of videos or images from a location different than where the original footage is stored or shot. Colorists use specialized software to collaborate with clients or teams over the internet, allowing them to review changes in real time or through uploaded files. This workflow has become popular due to its flexibility, enabling professionals to work with clients worldwide without needing to be physically present in the same studio. It requires high-speed internet and calibrated monitors to ensure color accuracy across locations.

About LegalZoom
LegalZoom is on a mission to help people navigate the legal system with confidence and clarity. As a leader in online legal services for over 25 years, we combine technology, attorney-led solutions, and expertise to protect the aspirations, lives, and legacies of millions of customers. If you’re ready to contribute to a collaborative, diverse, and distributed group of creative thinkers and problem-solvers, we can’t wait to meet you.
Human-in-the-Loop
At LegalZoom, we operate with a human-in-the-loop model, where AI enhances—rather than replaces—human judgment. We believe the strongest outcomes for our customers come from thoughtfully integrating human expertise with AI capabilities to improve accuracy, safety, and decision-making.

To align with our AI-integrated operating model, our interview process will assess AI fluency, curiosity, and measurable/impactful workflow integration.
Where we work
We believe work should work for you. LegalZoom supports a remote-friendly environment that gives employees flexibility and balance. Our Austin, Beaverton, Frisco, Los Angeles Metro, and San Francisco Bay Area offices allow our employees to collaborate with teammates and offer special onsite events, lunches, and more.
This hybrid position will work remotely as well as onsite in our Austin, TX, Sherman Oaks, CA or Mountain View, CA office. Ideal candidates will be located in or near Los Angeles. Please include a portfolio with your application.
Overview
LegalZoom’s Brand & Creative team is looking for a Senior Art Director to help define our visual strategy and elevate creative from concept through execution across every channel where our brand shows up. In this role, you’ll bring a strong visual point of view, a systems mindset, and a deep understanding of how design and storytelling drive brand and business outcomes.

You’ll partner closely with copywriters, designers, video editors, strategists, and channel owners to translate briefs into distinctive concepts, mood boards, graphics, and videos that make LegalZoom’s story clear, compelling, and consistent. Your roots in advertising and brand design give you a sharp sense for concept and storytelling, and your experience extends beyond single campaigns into building holistic, scalable brand systems and guidelines.

This role requires a balance of conceptual thinking, hands-on design craft, production know-how, and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll serve a key role on the team—setting the visual bar, giving clear, actionable feedback, and helping elevate the work of those around you.

You Will

  • Define the visual strategy for key brand and marketing initiatives, elevating creative from concept through execution to ensure brand consistency, clarity, and impact across channels.
  • Contribute to and help evolve the visual system for LegalZoom’s brand, including look and feel, typography, color, composition, photography, illustration, and motion, and help enforce brand guardrails across all assets.
  • Lead the creative development of performance advertising across static, video, and audio and employer brand content from initial concept through final execution, translating complex ideas and technology into clear, compelling visual narratives that bring LegalZoom’s story and products to life while aligning with business goals, audience needs, and brand standards.
  • Be hands-on as needed, independently creating storyboards, presentations, and design assets, and contributing graphic design work to move ideas forward with speed and clarity.
  • Provide visual direction and actionable, craft-focused feedback to designers, writers, editors, and external partners, leading reviews that help teams execute efficiently and effectively against the brief.
  • Partner closely with brand strategy, product marketing, growth, communications, production, and channel owners to adapt ideas by audience, platform, and format, ensuring work feels native to each channel while staying true to the brand.
  • Ensure creative quality on shoots, meeting technical specifications, accessibility standards, and performance and testing requirements.
  • Help evolve, document, and socialize LegalZoom’s brand and design elements in ways that are scalable, clear, and easy for teams and partners to apply consistently.
  • Stay close to cultural, design, and platform trends, bringing fresh, insight-driven ideas that push the brand forward while remaining grounded in business objectives.
  • Contribute to the team’s operations and creative culture, sharing best practices, championing design craft, and helping raise the overall visual bar of the organization.

You Have
  • 6–8+ years of experience as an Art Director or Senior Art Director on an in-house team or at a top-tier creative agency, with a portfolio featuring work for modern consumer or technology brands.
  • A portfolio demonstrating concept-driven campaigns, clear visual narratives, and thoughtful use of typography, color, layout, and imagery across cohesive systems, not just one-off executions.
  • Experience leading creative from brief through launch, balancing a clear creative point of view with collaboration, iteration, and on-time delivery in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience directing photography, illustration, and video from pre-production through post, collaborating with internal teams and external partners.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with a low-ego, feedback-friendly approach and a passion for design craft and storytelling.
  • Bonus: Experience in legal, financial, or professional services; familiarity with performance marketing; and prior in-house experience at a growth-stage or scaled consumer brand.

The national range for this role is $124,000 - $139,500. Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors, including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus, and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package. You will also receive a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, as seen below.
