Job description

Company Profile
Headway Environmental is a national environmental consulting firm helping clients navigate complex environmental regulations while advancing infrastructure, energy, water, mining, transportation, and land development projects across the United States.
Our multidisciplinary team provides environmental permitting, biological resources, wetlands, NEPA compliance, ecological restoration, mitigation and conservation bank permitting, water resources, and environmental planning services that help clients reduce project risk, maintain schedules, and achieve regulatory compliance.
Our clients rely on us because environmental challenges are often among the most critical factors affecting project success. Whether supporting renewable energy development, transportation improvements, public infrastructure, or private development, we work collaboratively to deliver practical, science-based solutions that balance environmental stewardship with successful project delivery.
Job Description
Headway Environmental is seeking an experienced nationwide Account Executive (AE) to expand our national client base and drive strategic growth across multiple market sectors. The successful candidate will report to the President of Headway Environmental.
This role is focused on creating opportunities, not simply responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Successful candidates proactively identify prospective clients, develop relationships with key decision-makers, and engage Headway's technical experts early in the discussion to position the firm before procurement even begins. Once opportunities are qualified, the AE partners with Headway's technical and operations teams to develop the technical approach, pricing, proposals, and ultimately deliver the work. The AE tracks the opportunity within Headway's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, ensuring pipeline information is up to date. This will include continued coordination between the client and Headway's technical team through the close of the deal.
Success in this role requires curiosity, initiative, and the ability to build trust with prospective clients. You'll work alongside Headway's scientists, engineers, and permitting specialists to connect clients with the right expertise at the right time, creating opportunities that become long-term partnerships.
Hire Type: Full-time (salary plus commission)
Schedule: 40 hours, Monday-Friday
Location: Remote - work from home within the Central and Southwest region
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a national business development strategy focused on new client acquisition and strategic account growth.
  • Identify, qualify, pursue, and secure new opportunities across public and private sector markets.
  • Build relationships with project owners, developers, engineering firms, utilities, public agencies, municipalities, industrial clients, and other organizations requiring environmental consulting services.
  • Maintain a healthy sales pipeline through strategic prospecting, networking, referrals, and industry engagement.
  • Represent Headway Environmental at industry conferences, professional organizations, and client meetings.

Strategic Account Development
  • Develop relationships with key decision-makers and position Headway Environmental's technical experts as trusted advisors throughout the client engagement process.
  • Understand each client's business objectives, project portfolio, permitting needs, and regulatory challenges.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships across multiple service lines.
  • Collaborate with technical and operations leadership to develop long-term account strategies.

Capture Planning
  • Identify, qualify, and prioritize opportunities that align with Headway's strategic markets, technical capabilities, and growth objectives.
  • Gather client, project, regulatory, schedule, and procurement intelligence needed to support successful pursuit planning.
  • Coordinate early client discussions with Headway's technical subject matter experts to establish credibility and define client needs.
  • Facilitate a seamless transition of qualified opportunities to Headway's technical and operations teams for scope development, pricing, proposal preparation, and project delivery.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity information and pursuit status within Salesforce to support forecasting and strategic planning.

Market Intelligence
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging market opportunities.

What Success Looks Like
  • A Successful nationwide Account Executive at Headway:
  • Builds trusted, long-term relationships with clients based on credibility, responsiveness, and technical understanding.
  • Creates opportunities early in project planning before environmental issues become schedule constraints.
  • Understands both the business drivers and environmental challenges influencing client decisions.
  • Consistently achieves or exceeds annual bookings goals.
  • Maintains a strong, well-qualified national sales pipeline.
  • Represents Headway Environmental as a trusted partner and respected leader within the environmental consulting industry.
