Working remotely as a CCNA Routing and Switching professional often involves managing network infrastructure and troubleshooting issues without direct, on-site access to hardware. This can make diagnosing physical connectivity issues or configuring devices more challenging. To overcome these obstacles, remote professionals rely heavily on remote desktop tools, detailed documentation, and strong communication with on-site staff. Proactively setting up clear escalation processes and leveraging network monitoring tools can also help maintain smooth operations and minimize downtime.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote CCNA Routing and Switching professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote CCNA Routing and Switching professional, you need a solid understanding of networking concepts, TCP/IP protocols, and hands-on experience with routers and switches, typically validated by the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. Familiarity with Cisco IOS, network monitoring tools, and remote troubleshooting platforms is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, clear communication, and self-motivation are important soft skills for working independently and resolving technical issues remotely. These skills and qualities are crucial to ensuring secure, efficient network operations and effective support in a remote work environment.

About the Role

At Southland Credit Union, we believe helping people achieve financial well-being starts with a secure, reliable technology foundation. Every interaction our members haveโ€”whether visiting a branch, accessing online banking, or connecting with us remotelyโ€”depends on systems that work seamlessly. That's where you come in.

As our Senior Network Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, strengthening, and supporting the enterprise network infrastructure that keeps our organization connected and protected. Your work will help ensure our technology is secure, resilient, and ready to support both today's needs and tomorrow's growth. You'll partner closely with IT leadership and cross-functional teams to solve complex challenges, improve network performance, and help drive strategic technology initiatives across the organization.

This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, thinking strategically, and continuously improving the systems people rely on every day. If you're passionate about building secure, scalable infrastructure while collaborating with others to make a meaningful impact, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design, implement, and support secure enterprise network solutions across branch, data center, wireless, remote access, and cloud-connected environments.

  • Monitor network health, investigate complex performance issues, and restore services quickly to minimize business disruption.

  • Lead infrastructure improvements that strengthen reliability, scalability, cybersecurity, and overall network performance.

  • Partner with IT teams and business stakeholders to support new technologies, system integrations, branch expansions, and infrastructure modernization projects.

  • Evaluate emerging networking and security technologies and recommend solutions that support long-term business objectives.

  • Serve as a technical resource during major incidents, leading root cause analysis and developing lasting solutions to prevent future issues.

  • Develop and maintain network architecture standards, technical documentation, and disaster recovery planning to support business continuity.

  • Ensure network infrastructure meets regulatory, cybersecurity, audit, and information security requirements.

  • Identify opportunities to automate processes, improve efficiency, and simplify ongoing network administration.

  • Collaborate with vendors and internal partners to deliver reliable, secure technology solutions that support exceptional service for our members.

What You'll Bring

Experience

  • 5โ€“10 years of experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure, telecommunications, cybersecurity, or related technology environments.

  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting complex LAN/WAN, wireless, VPN, and enterprise networking solutions.

  • Experience troubleshooting large-scale network performance, security, and connectivity issues.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.

  • Equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience will also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including routing, switching, VLANs, SD-WAN, VPNs, wireless technologies, and network segmentation.

  • Experience supporting modern security technologies such as Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), network access control, firewalls, and secure remote access.

  • Familiarity with dynamic routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.

  • Understanding of cloud connectivity, hybrid infrastructure, identity management, DNS, DHCP, and enterprise authentication services.

  • Experience with scripting or automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, or APIs is highly desirable.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex technical challenges.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build effective partnerships across departments and with external vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cisco CCNP, CCNA, CompTIA Security+, Network+, or other relevant networking or cybersecurity certifications.

Why You'll Love This Opportunity

Technology plays an essential role in helping our members achieve financial well-being, and this position sits at the center of that mission. As a Senior Network Engineer, your expertise will help create a secure, reliable technology environment that supports every branch, every associate, and every member interaction.
