Remote Building Automation information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Building Automation position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Building Automation professional, you need expertise in HVAC, electrical, and mechanical control systems, typically supported by a background in engineering or building technologies. Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS), remote monitoring platforms, and relevant certifications such as Niagara AX or Siemens Desigo is essential. Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting ability, and clear communication are vital soft skills for collaborating with on-site teams and clients. These capabilities ensure efficient system performance, quick issue resolution, and effective coordination in a remote work setting.

They often use building management software to analyze data, predict maintenance needs, and improve system performance. This role is essential for reducing costs, enhancing sustainability, and maintaining occupant comfort without requiring on-site presence.

Job description

About the role:
If you’ve been in the BAS world a while, you know the difference between a job that just keeps you busy and one that keeps you engaged, respected, and growing.
At Automated Logic, a Carrier Company, our Senior Technicians describe this as the place where they finally found both challenge and balance. A place that trusts your judgment, values your craftsmanship, and gives you the tools and autonomy to make an impact.
As a Lead Field Technician, you’ll be the expert voice on-site — leading complex commissioning, solving deep system problems, and shaping how buildings perform. You’ll mentor newer techs, partner with strong project teams, and be counted on to deliver the kind of precision work our customers remember.
Our long-tenured people put it simply:
“I finally found it. Not just a job. Not just a paycheck. A work home.”
If that sounds like what you’ve been looking for, we’d like to welcome you home too.At Automated Logic, we believe in investing in our people. As a Senior Technician, you’ll have access to:
  • Professional Development: Training programs, certifications, and continuing education in BAS technologies and leadership.
  • Career Pathways and Leadership Opportunities: Opportunities to advance into roles such as Project Engineer, Technical Manager, or Operations Lead, as well as mentor junior staff and contribute to strategic initiatives that shape our service delivery.
  • Recognition & Rewards: Recognition programs that celebrate your contributions.

What you’ll gain:
  • Health & wellness benefits, 401k, paid time off and competitive wages - along with fleet vehicle eligibility and OT opportunities
  • Stability and respect. Many of our field engineers have been here 10–20 years — because their work, time, and expertise are valued.
  • Freedom to execute. You’ll own your projects, make field calls, and collaborate closely with engineers and PMs who trust your expertise.
  • Continuous learning. Access to advanced training in WebCTRL®, networking, integration, and system analytics.
  • Balance and culture. Leadership that respects family time, and a team that looks out for one another.

What you’ll do:
  • Lead commissioning and optimization of advanced BAS for HVAC, lighting, and energy systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical and integration issues across multiple platforms (WebCTRL®, Niagara, Schneider, Honeywell).
  • Integrate third-party systems using BACnet, Modbus, or LonWorks.
  • Configure controls, trends, alarms, and reports; manage secure network connections.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.
  • Deliver customer training and ensure systems perform exactly as promised.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of experience in Building Automation, HVAC, or technical field.
  • Capable of climbing ladders or using other lift equipment over 8 feet above grade
  • Capable of lifting items up to 50lbs.
  • Valid and current Driver’s License and can be insured by the company’s insurance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree, Technical/Business School Certificate or Diploma in HVAC, Controls, or related field.

  • Ability to navigate and integrate into a variety of building automation systems.
  • Expert with TCP/IP networks including wireless technology.
  • Experience interacting with a large and diverse number of simultaneous challenges, requiring knowledge of multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
