Department Overview

The Health and Clinical Engagement division provides valuable health and wellness services to help people maximize their health and quality of life. Health Management is one of the most critical issues Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama faces in fulfilling its responsibility to be a superior administrator of health care benefits. Our goal is to provide the highest quality benefits and services while we effectively control health care costs.


Primary Responsibilities

This position is accountable for identifying and addressing social determinants that impact a member's health. The incumbent will have through knowledge of available community resources including social services programs.

In addition, the incumbent will provide support in the Health and Clinical Engagement area by identifying referrals for complex case management based on established guidelines. The incumbent will coordinate and maximize member's contract benefits by evaluating social needs, integrating community/social service programs and assisting in the development of alternative plans of treatment that provide quality care.

Summary of Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or higher level Degree in Social Work
  • Current licensure by State of Alabama as a Social Worker
  • Three years of clinical experience as a licensed Social Worker, including a thorough understanding of medical/social services
  • Knowledgeable of benefit, claims payment, billing guidelines, and laws and contracts that govern health insurance programs
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with providers, subscribers and group representatives
  • Experience analyzing clinical situations and making informed decisions in an autonomous setting
  • Willingness to travel on-site if necessary to assess the patient or facilities, which may involve overnight travel on occasion
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) is strongly preferred
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker is preferred
  • Experience in a position requiring independent decision-making skills is preferred
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule in order to provide telephone coverage is preferred
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time a needed is preferred
Work Location

The work schedule for this position will be full-time remote. Business areas reserve the right to require associates to return to the office as needed, based on performance or other business considerations. A remote work schedule is subject to amendment or termination at any time by the Company.
