Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Finance & Accounting Consultant to support the development of practical and scalable Finance & Accounting solutions for the sports industry. The consultant will work across accounting, compliance, FP&A, financial reporting, and complex finance challenges, leveraging customized ERP and AI-enabled solutions.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience working with professional sports clubs, leagues, federations, or sports organizations, combined with deep knowledge of IFRS/US GAAP and the ability to advise senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
  • Build and optimize accounting processes aligned with IFRS/US GAAP and sports-specific financial regulations.
  • Establish controls for month-end close, consolidations, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Develop FP&A frameworks covering budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and revenue modelling.
  • Analyze sports-related revenue streams, including ticketing, sponsorships, broadcasting, merchandising, and commercial income.
  • Develop executive and management reporting that provides clear, actionable financial insights.
  • Resolve complex accounting matters such as player contract accounting, transfer fee amortization, deferred income, salary structures, and audit queries.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance and recommendations for complex or ambiguous transactions.
  • Support financial compliance with applicable league, governing body, and sports regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare clear financial narratives, presentations, and recommendations for C-suite executives, Boards, investors, and external stakeholders.
  • Translate complex finance and accounting topics into clear business language for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multi-shore teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful solution delivery.
Must-Have Requirements
  • 5–7+ years of Finance & Accounting experience.
  • Meaningful experience working with professional sports clubs, leagues, federations, or sports organizations.
  • Experience with organizations such as Premier League, NFL, NBA, La Liga, IPL, or national sports federations is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and/or US GAAP.
  • Hands-on experience with sports-specific financial areas such as:
    • Player/athlete contract accounting
    • Transfer fees and amortization
    • Salary caps or compensation structures
    • Sponsorship and kit revenue
    • Stadium/venue financials
    • Broadcasting and commercial revenue
  • Experience supporting senior leadership, C-suite executives, Boards, or investors.
  • Strong financial modelling, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to produce concise, executive-level financial reports and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of UEFA Financial Sustainability Rules or comparable sports financial regulations.
  • CPA, ACCA, CIMA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Previous experience with Big 4 firms or specialist sports finance advisory practices.
  • Experience with SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or other ERP/FP&A platforms.
  • Experience with multi-currency consolidation and international tax structures.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled finance solutions, customized ERP platforms, or finance transformation projects.
