Shape the documentation foundation of a mission-critical Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) cloud platform as a Technical Writer! You'll produce, edit, and maintain the comprehensive suite of technical and operational documents supporting VA staff and millions of Veterans.

Position Description: The Technical Writer is responsible for the production, editing, formatting, and maintenance of all technical documentation and formal deliverables where you'll work across multiple program areas to synthesize complex technical content into clear, accurate, and professionally formatted documents suitable for both technical audiences and VA executive leadership.

Minimum/General Experience: 5 years of experience in technical writing for cloud platforms, DevSecOps environments, and enterprise information technology (IT) systems

Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in technical writing, English, communications, information technology, or related field

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • Excellent experience producing federal government technical documentation
  • Excellent experience producing project management plans, architecture packages, maintenance plans, assessment reports, and monthly status reports in Microsoft Word and Project formats
  • Excellent ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accurate prose accessible to non-technical stakeholders (e.g., cloud architecture, Kubernetes platform operations, DevSecOps pipelines, Risk Management Framework/security processes)
  • Excellent experience ensuring all deliverables meet Section 508 conformance requirements
  • Excellent experience tracking and reporting Information and Communication Technology (ICT) deliverable 508 status in weekly progress reports
  • Excellent ability to manage multiple simultaneous deliverable deadlines, track status against the Contractor Project Management Plan (CPMP), and proactively identify risks to on-time delivery
  • Excellent experience developing and maintaining living documents including capabilities and services catalogs, platform dependency lists, and architecture packages
  • Above average knowledge of SAFe Agile methodology and its documentation requirements (e.g., Sprint Retrospective Reports, Program Increment (PI) Milestone documents, PI artifacts)
  • Above average experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Project, PowerPoint)
  • Above average experience with Jira and Confluence for document production, version control, and collaborative authoring
  • Working knowledge of cloud platform operations, AWS architecture, and VA enterprise policies to accurately document technical content
  • Experience supporting a federal agency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Acceptable Credentials

Tasks/Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Drafts, edits, formats, and finalizes the CPMP in both narrative and graphic formats in coordination with the Program Manager
  • Produces and formats Weekly Progress Reports in Microsoft Word and Project
  • Ensures all data elements are accurately documented including work completed, work planned, issues, resolutions, and ICT Section 508 conformance status
  • Supports development and formatting of the Capabilities and Services Document and maintains as a living artifact
  • Ensures accuracy and alignment of the Capabilities and Services Document with current platform capabilities
  • Supports development and formatting of the Platform Dependency List
  • Produces and formats the monthly deliverables report documenting status of deliverables
  • Clearly identifies late, inaccurate, or unapproved deliverables
  • Supports drafting and editing of the Architecture Package
  • Ensures professional appearance and suitability for government briefings
  • Supports drafting and editing of the Architecture, Engineering, and Maintenance Assessment
  • Drafts and formats the Maintenance Plan in both narrative and graphical formats
  • Obtains and tracks Program Manager approval prior to implementation of the Maintenance Plan
  • Ensures all deliverables are completed on schedule, are accurate, error-free, and professionally formatted in accordance with VA requirements
  • Maintains the monthly deliverables report as the authoritative tracking tool for all deliverable status
  • Supports ad hoc documentation requests including incident report drafting, assessment briefings, and other written deliverables

Compensation & Benefits: The annual projected pay range for this position is $75,769 - $101,809 with consideration being given to various factors including but not limited to qualifications, experience, job responsibilities, and geographic location.
