DESCRIPTION 

Sinch is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the globally distributed teams responsible for billing services. In this role, you will guide the software development of the complex, business-critical systems that serve as the foundation for our billing processes. Your teams are responsible for building everything from usage rating engines to the crucial APIs that serve as the gateway for all internal services to communicate with our central billing platform, Zuora. An ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading teams that build reliable, service-oriented architecture and can balance long-term strategic thinking with the immediate needs of the business. 

Your Impact & Responsibilities  

  • Leads, mentors, and grows a high-performing, globally distributed organization of engineers and engineering managers through regular 1:1s, coaching, and career development conversations. 

  • Builds an inclusive, high-trust, and collaborative culture across multiple teams and time zones. 

  • Guides design and architecture decisions for our billing services, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, and aligned with long-term business and technology goals. 

  • Partners with Product, other engineering teams, and business stakeholders to align on priorities, refine requirements, and communicate engineering progress for billing roadmaps. 

  • Drives strategic planning, OKR execution, and cross-team coordination to consistently deliver on commitments. 

  • Establishes and champions a culture of engineering excellence, operational ownership, and continuous improvement across the organization, including the adoption of modern tools and AI to enhance developer productivity. 

  • Identifies and mitigates technical risk early, escalating blockers and communicating tradeoffs to leadership proactively. 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience, with a background in building complex, service-oriented systems. 

  • 5+ years of engineering management experience, with a demonstrated track record of managing other managers and leading multiple engineering teams. 

  • Proven experience leading globally distributed teams and fostering a strong, unified culture. 

  • Deep architectural understanding of cloud-native services and the ability to guide technical discussions across a diverse technology landscape (including Java, Go, and Python). 

  • Experience with event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, Kinesis) and container orchestration (Kubernetes). 

  • Experience working in an Agile environment with mature CI/CD practices. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to discuss complex technical and business topics with a wide range of audiences, from individual engineers to senior executives. 

  • Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain senior engineering talent and engineering leaders. 

Preferred 

  • Hands-on experience with billing, payments, rating engines, or financial technology systems. 

  • Direct experience with subscription management platforms like Zuora, particularly in an API gateway or service-layer context. 

  • Experience with modern observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana). 

  • Experience managing services in a multi-cloud environment (AWS, GCP). 

This is a remote opportunity, but candidates must reside near one of our hub locations for occasional collaboration: Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; San Antonio, TX; Denver, CO

The annual starting salary for this position is between $160,000 - 200,000.
