What is a remote ad hoc job?

Remote Ad Hoc jobs refer to temporary, as-needed work assignments that can be performed from any location, typically online. These roles are not regular or ongoing but are instead offered on a project-by-project or task-by-task basis. Common examples include freelance work, consulting, technical support, or administrative tasks that are handled remotely. Remote Ad Hoc jobs provide flexibility for both employers and workers, allowing people to work when opportunities arise without a long-term commitment. This type of work is ideal for those seeking flexible hours or supplementary income.

How do team members typically communicate and collaborate in a remote ad hoc role where schedules and projects may be irregular?

In a remote ad hoc position, communication and collaboration are often managed through digital tools such as Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms like Trello or Asana. Since tasks may arise unpredictably, team members are expected to be responsive and proactive in checking for updates or requests. Clear documentation and asynchronous communication are crucial to keep everyone aligned, especially when schedules differ. Building strong relationships with team leads and maintaining regular check-ins can help ensure that projects run smoothly, even in a flexible and dynamic work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote ad hoc analyst, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Ad Hoc Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, data interpretation abilities, and typically a bachelor’s degree in a related field such as business, statistics, or computer science. Proficiency in data analysis tools like Excel, SQL, Tableau, or Power BI, as well as familiarity with remote collaboration platforms, is essential. Excellent time management, self-motivation, and clear written and verbal communication are vital soft skills for independent and effective remote work. These skills and qualifications enable precise, timely insights and seamless collaboration, which are crucial for supporting data-driven decisions in a flexible, remote environment.

Job Number: 831

This is a remote position.

Ad Hoc is a technology company that empowers organizations to deliver scalable, impactful digital services. Using modern, agile methods, our team creates products that meet people’s needs and transform their experience of government.

Work on things that matter

Our collaborations have shaped some of the defining moments in public-sector service delivery. We’ve helped build products that connect Veterans to tailored services, help millions access affordable health care, and support important programs like Head Start. As we work with agencies to deliver critical services, we’re also changing how the government approaches technology.

Built for a remote life

Our culture, communications, and tools are built for remote work, enabling us to bring together top talent nationwide. At Ad Hoc, remote life empowers our teams to design work environments that fit their lives and that foster flexibility and collaboration to achieve positive outcomes for our customers.

Committed to high expectations and a welcoming culture

Ad Hoc values acceptance, accountability, and humility. We aren’t heroes. We learn from our mistakes and improve the process for the next time. We build small, inclusive teams to collaborate closely with our partners to solve the right problems and deliver software that works.

Our Growth and Solutioning teams help shape how Ad Hoc qualifies, captures, and delivers meaningful federal work. By partnering across technical, delivery, proposal, and GTM functions, these teams help ensure Ad Hoc remains competitive, scalable, and aligned to customer challenges across the federal civilian landscape.

Primary Responsibilities:

In this role, you will serve as a senior technical and growth partner supporting qualification, capture, and proposal efforts across strategic federal opportunities. You will help bridge technical solutioning with business growth strategy, partnering closely with GTM, Capture, Proposal, Delivery, and Engineering teams to develop compelling technical approaches that position Ad Hoc for continued growth.

This is a highly collaborative individual contributor role focused on helping shape technical strategy, proposal development, customer solutioning, and growth initiatives. This role does not include direct people management responsibilities.

Primary expectations of a Senior Solutions Architect (Federal Civilian Growth) include:

  • Partners with Growth, Capture, and GTM leadership to qualify and shape strategic federal opportunities
  • Leads technical solutioning activities for large, complex federal pursuits, including opportunities with contract values exceeding $50 million, partnering across Capture, Proposal, Engineering, and Growth teams to develop competitive technical strategies.
  • Supports capture and proposal efforts from early qualification through submission
  • Develops technical win themes, discriminators, and customer-focused solution narratives
  • Translates complex technical concepts into clear business and customer value
  • Collaborates with proposal, pricing, delivery, and engineering teams to align technical and growth strategies
  • Contributes to technical proposal content, architecture approaches, staffing concepts, and solution frameworks
  • Participates in customer conversations, technical discussions, and growth strategy meetings
  • Acts as a trusted technical advisor during capture and solutioning activities
  • Maintains awareness of federal civilian acquisition trends, customer challenges, and emerging technologies
  • Identifies capability gaps and contributes to recommendations for strategic investments, partnerships, or technical improvements
  • Supports reusable playbooks, technical artifacts, and solutioning frameworks that improve proposal quality and speed
  • Contributes to a culture of collaboration, learning, technical excellence, and continuous improvement across Ad Hoc
  • Operates as a player/coach during strategic pursuits, helping align customer needs with scalable technical solutions
  • Partners across teams with limited bureaucracy and strong autonomy to help shape growth initiatives and solutioning practices
Basic Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of professional experience across technical consulting, engineering, architecture, delivery, or related technical environments
  • 5+ years of recent and relevant experience supporting federal capture, business development, proposal strategy, sales engineering, or solutioning efforts
  • Demonstrated experience serving as the lead Solution Architect or technical solutioning lead for one or more federal opportunities or portfolios valued at $50 million or greater.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting qualification, capture, and development of federal government proposals
  • Strong technical foundation with the ability to understand and communicate modern technical architectures and solution approaches
  • Experience translating technical capabilities into compelling customer-focused solution narratives
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Familiarity with federal procurement environments, evaluation criteria, and acquisition processes
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with GTM, proposal, delivery, and technical teams
  • Ability to operate strategically in fast-moving and evolving growth environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related field. Additional relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience from organizations such as Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, or Accenture
  • Experience supporting Federal Civilian agencies, particularly Treasury, IRS, Commerce, NOAA, USCIS, HHS, CMS, VA, or similar civilian agencies
  • Background in technical consulting, enterprise modernization, cloud transformation, DevSecOps, platform engineering, or digital services
