Duties
Help
Instructional faculty are the core of the National Intelligence College academic mission. They are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, mentoring students, conducting relevant research and contributing to the NDU-NIC community and the broader intelligence enterprise.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teaching and Instruction.
  
  • Teaches classified core and elective courses in one or more NIC programs (degrees, certificates, and/or JPME).
  • Develops expertise and teaches classified courses within a specific concentration or topic area as required by the Dean and Department Chair.
  • Implements and enforces appropriate learning standards and rigor, using outcome assessment data for course, curricular, and program improvement.
  • Integrates classified intelligence products and capabilities into the learning environment.
  • Actively participates in the management of College curriculum through the effective and collegial engagement with quality circles and other bodies (formal and informal) focused on curriculum management.
• Student Advising and Mentorship
  
  • Serves as committee chair for graduate research projects in accordance with department chair, program director, and Dean guidance.
  • Advises students with respect to admissions, degree options, degree requirements, and the graduation process.
• Research and Professional Engagement
  
  • Conducts research on specific areas of intelligence concern.
  • Maintains currency on scholarship in their fields of expertise and fields related to their teaching assignments.
  • As appropriate, coordinates for guest speakers from the IC and national security community to enhance the student learning environment.
  • Represents the NIC and NDU at DoW, ODNI, IC agency meetings, conferences, and symposia.
  • Maintains active liaison with government and private sector civilians, military, and academics associated with intelligence research and education NIC, NDU, and Institutional Service.
  • Participates, as needed, in outreach, engagement activities, and governance.
  • Assists, as applicable, with compliance audits, program reviews, outreach efforts, and other institutional assessments on behalf of the accrediting organization.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications

1. An earned master's degree or other international equivalent terminal degree (doctorate preferred) from a regionally accredited university in a discipline directly related to national security, public policy, cyberspace strategy security, information technology, data analytics, strategic leadership, strategic intelligence, history, emerging technologies, regional studies, international relations, strategic influence, or other relevant peripheral areas.
2. Substantive knowledge and relevant experience in fields directly relevant to the College mission.
3. Recent and/or deep expertise in matters related to the Intelligence Community, national security policy, cyberspace strategy, data and AI, regional issues, and emerging technologies.
4. Evidence of excellence in teaching as a faculty member at an accredited college or university, including instruction, course development, instructional design, and instruction across various modalities (in-person, asynchronous, remote).
5. The ability to teach within NIC's core curriculum which requires expertise in intelligence collection, intelligence analysis, leadership and management, intelligence and national security policy, emerging and disruptive technology, international relations and global security, and/or academic research methods and design.
6. Ability to conduct stakeholder outreach and engagement.
7. Interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills including the ability to work effectively both independently and, in a team, or collaborative environment; initiative in carrying out mission responsibilities based on supervisor guidance.

Criteria for Determining Academic Rank
Professor (AD-04); Salary Range: $144,837-$183,428: Requires an earned doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree in a field related to national security. Documented experience in full-time graduate-level teaching at a regionally accredited university or college for at least 8 years of which at least three years must be at the graduate level, sustained record of excellence and leadership of scholarship among peers and external recognition of excellence and a sustained record of advancement of institutional partnerships, relationships that leverage cross-component mission success, and networks of influence that contribute to national security.
Associate Professor (AD-03); Salary Range: $103,582-$148,053 : Requires an earned doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree in a field related to national security. Requires 5 years teaching experience, with at least 2 years graduate, record of excellence and leadership of scholarship among peers, and external recognition of excellence and record of advancement of institutional partnerships. relationships that leverage cross-component mission success, and networks of influence that contribute to national security.
Assistant Professor (AD-02); Salary Range: $76,788-$124,231: Requires an earned master's degree, doctoral degree, or equivalent terminal degree preferred, in a field related to national security. Education or teaching experience in an academic environment, knowledge of best practices, and commitment to lifelong learning, and at least one (1) year, or the instructional equivalent, of full-time graduate-level teaching experience at a regionally accredited college or university, scholarship/research resulting in the creation and sharing of new knowledge through teaching or publishing; and aptitude in collaboration across institutional boundaries.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education Requirement: Master's degree or other international equivalent terminal degree (doctorate preferred) from a regionally accredited university in a discipline directly related to national security, public policy, cyberspace strategy security, information technology, data analytics, strategic leadership, or financial management.
Official Transcripts: Official transcripts are not required at the time of application; however, if the position has a positive degree requirement, qualifying based on education alone or in combination with experience, transcripts must be verified PRIOR to appointment, if selected for the role.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. • • Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. Applicants educated in whole or in part in foreign countries must submit sufficient evidence, including transcripts, to an accredited private organization for an equivalency evaluation of course work and degree. Background or Security Investigation: This is a Special Sensitive position which requires a background investigation. The individual selected for this position is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security determination to occupy a Special Sensitive position within the agency as a condition of employment.
