Job description

Overview
The Section Lab Supervisor oversees technical aspects of department including Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities. Ensure staff are trained and competent to perform patient testing. Manages equipment, supplies and services with respect to quality. Reviews and updates policies and procedures as needed. Ensures department is compliant with CAP standards including proficiency testing, CLIA, AHCA and Joint Commission. Communicates any concerns or issues to Lab Administration.
Responsibilities
  • Updates section to adhere to any changes in accreditation standards prepares technical sections and staff for inspections. Ensure staff are trained and competent to perform patient testing.
  • Reviews daily work to check for completeness, obvious errors or omissions. Reviews Critical Result documentation performed by staff.
  • Monthly staffing schedule is created to adequately cover all shifts and post at least one week before the beginning of the new month with vacation and other staff time off fairly considered.
  • Maintains good inventory control practices, makes recommendations, and implements needed changes to par levels and product availability; monitors supply shortages, recalls, substitutions, and maintains cost effectiveness. Coordinates selection, evaluation, and implementation of new equipment and systems.
  • Adheres to the quality control policies in performing, resulting, troubleshooting, and documenting all quality control activities. Issues unable to be resolved are reported promptly to leadership.
  • Assists in the provision of direct supervision and leadership for all functions of the specialty to include disciplinary action, the hire and termination process, and employee performance review.
  • Provide instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and laboratory procedures to students and employees.
  • Performs laboratory testing with accuracy and precision specific to the assigned section for the treatment and diagnosis of diseases.
  • Performs and documents preventative maintenance and troubleshooting records to maintain high quality laboratory service.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.

Qualifications
Education / Training
  • Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology/Clinical Lab Science

Experience Requirements
  • 5 to 7 years Clinical Laboratory experience

Certificates/Licenses/Registration
  • Supervisor License in Florida in all 5 Specialties - Microbiology, Serology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology
