Refrigeration Engineer
The Refrigeration Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, manufacturability, and production of XeteX HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) equipment while serving as the technical subject matter expert for refrigeration systems on the production floor.
This role combines engineering support with hands-on technical training to ensure refrigeration systems are built safely, correctly, and efficiently. The position works closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve technical issues, improve manufacturing processes, and develop the skills of HVAC technicians through structured training and hands-on instruction.
The ideal candidate brings strong refrigeration system expertise, manufacturing experience, and the ability to effectively teach and mentor technicians in a fast-paced production environment.
Job Duties:
Engineering & Production Support
• Provide hands-on technical support for the design, manufacturability, and production of HVAC equipment and refrigeration systems.
• Assist engineering and drafting teams with the development and improvement of electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical systems for HVAC units.
• Support drafters and engineers in interpreting and improving designs using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Review drawings, wiring diagrams, and piping schematics to ensure manufacturability and production accuracy.
• Work closely with production teams, engineers, and suppliers to troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions.
• Oversee and support fabrication, construction, and testing of refrigeration and HVAC systems including centralized heat, gas, water, and steam systems.
• Assist in identifying and implementing manufacturing improvements related to refrigeration systems and installation methods.
Training & Technical Development
• Deliver hands-on and classroom-style training to HVAC technicians on refrigeration systems, piping, brazing, wiring, and system commissioning.
• Train technicians on proper installation practices including piping, brazing, wiring, and refrigeration component installation.
• Provide instruction on refrigeration diagnostics, troubleshooting, and system performance verification.
• Demonstrate proper procedures including nitrogen purging, pressure testing, vacuum pulling, oil charging, and refrigerant charging.
• Train technicians to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Evaluate technician skill levels and provide coaching and mentorship to support development.
• Support onboarding and technical training for new HVAC technicians.
• Work with production supervisors to identify training needs and address skill gaps across the production floor.
• Develop and maintain technical training materials, procedures, and skill development programs.
• Reinforce workplace safety standards and proper refrigerant handling practices.
Continuous Improvement
• Support manufacturing quality initiatives and process improvements related to HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Serve as a technical resource for complex troubleshooting and refrigeration system questions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work and training environment.
• Assist other departments as needed and perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Bachelor or technical degree in HVAC, Refrigeration Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred. Associate's degree required. Equivalent experience may be considered.
• EPA Certification required.
• 5+ years of HVAC or refrigeration system experience in manufacturing, service, or installation.
• Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, piping practices, brazing, and HVAC electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and refrigeration schematics.
• Experience supporting HVAC equipment manufacturing or system assembly preferred.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks preferred.
• Experience with HVAC controls, DDC, or BAS systems is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, and develop technical employees.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word.
• Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple priorities.
