Overview

We are currently seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join AtkinsRealis' Geotechnical team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting on a variety of projects for various clients primarily within the province of Alberta with opportunities to work across the country. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional within the industry with a strong understanding of soil mechanics, proven detailed design experience, excellent project execution/delivery skills and a desire to further refine their technical skillset. The position will be based out of Calgary, AB.

Candidates should have the right flare and willingness to adapt to improving technical expertise, build upon the existing portfolio of proposals, projects and clients, work closely with the senior team members to deliver projects successfully, and collaborate with our rapidly expanding, flexible and outward looking team that can tackle work across a broad spectrum of sectors.

Your role

  • Undertake geotechnical assessments, complex analysis, design calculations and detailed designs with efficient use of specialized softwares such as GeoStudio, Rocscience and PLAXIS.
  • Contribute to the development of project proposals/cost estimates and participate in the process of securing new business opportunities or expanding the scope of existing projects.
  • Supporting senior leadership with field evaluations, manage and contribute to geotechnical investigations and undertake design assessments and complex analysis calculations.
  • Understand construction drawings and design reports to support construction, and provide guidance and troubleshooting for QA field testing and performance of materials such as soil, concrete and asphalt.
  • Analyze and prepare recommendations and reports for projects relating to foundation design, infrastructure, shoring, retaining walls, slope stability, ground improvement, settlement and deformation analysis, seismic & liquefaction assessments, road structure design, dikes and dams, materials testing, and other geotechnical related projects.

About you

  • Degree in civil engineering, geotechnical or geology with strong academic background and have a minimum of 8 years' pertinent experience.
  • Experience in project management, geotechnical investigations and undertaking design assessments and complex analysis calculations for shallow/deep foundations, shoring & retaining systems, settlement and deformation assessments, lateral response design, ground improvement designs, and seismic & liquefaction assessments
  • Experience with limit equilibrium and numerical modelling techniques such as Finite Element, Boundary Method with extensive capabilities in geotechnical softwares such as PLAXIS, FLAC, GeoStudio (Slope, Seep, Quake) and Rocscience applications.
  • Demonstrates leadership, excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills, organizational, and team collaboration.
  • Is registered or eligible for a Professional Engineering License as P.Eng. with APEGA.
