Senior Production Engineer

About Sinopec

Sinopec Canada is a wholly-owned subsidiary of a major International upstream oil and gas company, Sinopec International Petroleum Exploration and Production Corporation (SIPC) headquartered in Beijing, China. Sinopec Canada has been an active participant in the Canadian energy industry since 2005. Joining Sinopec Canada as a Senior Production Engineer means becoming an important part of our team dedicated to making successful contributions to a sustainable future.

Primary Purpose of Position


Reporting to the Manager, Production Engineering and Measurement, this position is responsible for providing expertise to plan and coordinate delivery of short-term production targets within Sinopec Canada. This will include significant involvement in monitoring well/area production, recommending optimization opportunities, and evaluating well performance. The role will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team including Field Operations, Exploitation/Reservoir Engineers, Production Accountants, Facility engineers and the Completions Group to ensure maximum value creation from our wells and assets.


Roles and Responsibilities are as follows but are not limited to:


  • Provide senior technical production engineering expertise across various Sinopec Canada operated assets with a focus on well performance, production optimization, and integrated production system analysis.
  • Accountable for designated area production performance, working closely with the field and Calgary staff to optimize production, improve reliability, and manage operating costs.
  • Lead implementation of Sour Nisku reactivation projects with gas injection and waterflood schemes.
  • Prepare annual budgets and monthly forecasts for production.
  • Provide production engineering input into new well design, and integrated field development planning.
  • Troubleshoot declining well performance, wellbore skin damage mechanisms, hydrate formation, corrosion, and production system constraints in area.
  • Develop technical recommendations, economic evaluations, and business cases to support optimization programs and strategic development decisions.
  • Collaborate with Reservoir, Completions, Facilities, and Operations teams to align reservoir development objectives with production system performance.
  • Support implementation of new production technologies, surveillance tools, and data analytics initiatives.
  • Participate in technical peer reviews, strategic planning initiatives, and multidisciplinary development evaluations.
  • Oversee all Artificial Lift (ESP, pump jack, timer, plunger lift and gas lift) performance and make recommendations for improved performance efficiency.
  • Utilize data analytics (PowerBI) for well monitoring, optimization and reporting.
  • Provide oversight to workover repair programs and identify optimization opportunities for execution.
  • Prepare technical materials for Executive and HQ approvals, as required.
  • Work with production accounting and measurement teams to ensure allocations are correct.
  • Maintain measurement systems (ProdView) to accurately represent area well production reporting.
  • Work closely with marketing department to effectively manage gas and liquid nominations, preparing and updating forecasts as required.
  • Work with Joint Venture team and third party processors on operations related agreements (processing, gathering, compression) and other Joint Venture related issues.
  • Maintain AER regulatory compliance and address all regulatory issues.

Position Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • Extensive experience in upstream oil and gas production engineering within Alberta, with a focus in sour oil considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of all types of artificial lift design, selection, installation and operation, especially ESPs.
  • Experience leading production engineering studies, optimization programs, and multi-disciplinary technical evaluations.
  • Measurement system (SCADA and ProdView) experience.
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft applications, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PowerBI.
  • Confident preparing and presenting project proposals to management to gain support and approval.
  • Strong ability to manage workload and meet timelines with always changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills demonstrating a detailed and efficient work style.
  • Ability to establish goals and objectives with designated timeframes and take accountability for successful execution with minimal supervision.
  • High level of integrity in all actions, complying with and promoting the company's core values, a respectful work environment, and aligning with the code of business conduct.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and work well in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.

Qualifications


  • Completion of Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • 15+ years of Oil and Gas related experience, ideally in Production or Operations Engineering
  • APEGA P.Eng. member in good standing is required
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
