Intermediate Project Engineer

Job Summary
As an experienced Project Engineer, you will support the delivery of industrial projects—particularly within refinery and heavy industrial environments—by coordinating engineering activities across mechanical, electrical, and/or structural disciplines. Based in Burnaby, BC, this client-facing role within a global engineering firm involves managing technical scope, schedule, and interfaces to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient project execution from concept through construction and commissioning.


Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Coordination
  • Coordinate multi-discipline engineering activities to meet project scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Support project planning, work packaging, and progress tracking for industrial and refinery-related projects.
  • Interface with construction, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure engineering deliverables support field execution.
Technical Oversight
  • Review and verify engineering deliverables (drawings, calculations, specifications) for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Support design development, technical clarifications, and resolution of engineering issues during all project phases.
  • Participate in hazard studies, constructability reviews, and design reviews as required.
Client & Stakeholder Interface
  • Act as a point of contact with clients for technical and execution-related matters.
  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to align technical requirements and schedules.
  • Prepare and support presentations, technical reports, and project updates for internal and external audiences.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure engineering activities align with health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems.
  • Support change management, risk identification, and mitigation throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5–10 years of relevant engineering experience on industrial projects; refinery or heavy industrial background strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting or leading project execution within an engineering consultancy or EPC environment.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industrial codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with discipline-appropriate engineering software and common project controls tools (general familiarity expected).
  • Strong coordination, communication, and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and willingness to work from or support projects based out of Burnaby, BC.
