Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Specialty Systems, Inc. has an opening for a RED Hat Platform Engineer to join our team of technical professionals supporting Government customers and national security mission requirements. In this role, you will support the design, implementation, automation, and sustainment of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)-based platform environments supporting mission-critical defense systems and software-intensive applications.


The position involves working within Government-provided environments while supporting secure infrastructure operations, platform modernization, DevSecOps integration, and system lifecycle management activities. As a member of the Specialty Systems team, you will contribute directly to secure and reliable platform solutions that support critical defense and intelligence missions.


This position is located at our customer site location. In this position, you will work our customerโ€™s Compressed Work Schedule which consists of working four 9-hour days (M-Th) and an 8-hour day (F) for the first week of a cycle followed by four 9-hour days (M-Th) and being off on the second Friday for the second week of a cycle. This results in a 3-day weekend every other week!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, implement, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)-based platform infrastructure across development, test, and operational environments
  • Automate system provisioning, configuration management, deployment, and documentation using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools
  • Administer Linux systems including system hardening, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management
  • Support containerized environments utilizing Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, and OpenShift technologies
  • Integrate platform capabilities into DevSecOps pipelines and CI/CD workflows
  • Implement and maintain security controls in compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements including STIGs and RMF
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot platform issues, and ensure reliability, scalability, and availability
  • Manage storage, file systems, and system resources to optimize system performance
  • Support virtualization and cloud-based environments including VMware, OpenStack, AWS, or similar technologies
  • Collaborate with software development, systems engineering, cybersecurity, and test teams to support system integration and operational readiness
  • Maintain system documentation, architecture diagrams, configuration baselines, and technical procedures
  • Identify technical risks and support continuous improvement and modernization initiatives across platform environments


QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline preferred
  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements
  • Active Secret Clearance required or ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting Linux systems administration and engineering, preferably within RHEL-based environments
  • Security+ CE certification or ability to obtain certification within 3โ€“6 months of hire
  • Strong experience administering and engineering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments
  • Experience with scripting and automation using Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools
  • Experience supporting containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, and OpenShift
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps methodologies and CI/CD pipeline integration
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts, Linux security, and infrastructure operations
  • Experience implementing and maintaining STIG compliance and RMF security controls
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within collaborative Government and contractor team environments


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Navy, NAVAIR, or DoD programs
  • Red Hat certifications such as RHCSA or RHCE
  • Experience supporting enterprise Kubernetes or OpenShift environments
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and virtualization technologies
  • Familiarity with secure platform modernization initiatives and mission-critical system environments
  • Experience supporting classified or highly regulated environments
