Job Description:
Kentucky Public Pensions Authority (KPPA) is currently seeking a Senior Database Administrator for the Division of Enterprise and Technology Services, Application Services Branch II. Located in Frankfort, Kentucky, KPPA is responsible for the daily administration of three state administered retirement systems with over $24.9 billion in combined assets. These systems have a membership of approximately 421,000 state and local government employees in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, including state employees, state police officers, city and county employees, as well as non-teaching staff of local school boards and regional universities.
The KPPA Division of Enterprise and Technology Services is staffed by 43 technology professionals divided up between 7 branches. The Application Services Branch currently consists of 16 information technology professionals skilled in application development and database administration.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Microsoft SQL Server Administrator, monitoring and optimizing database performance, including query tuning, indexing, and capacity planning. Managing database security, user access, encryption, backup.
  • Provide technical expertise for data administration, database programming, and KPPA's Line of Business (LOB) applications, including mentoring development staff on SQL optimization and performance enhancements.
  • Design, develop, modify, and maintain SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports; collaborate with business users and analysts to gather reporting requirements and deliver accurate, efficient reporting solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production database, LOB, and data integrity issues; provide technical support to development teams and serve as a subject matter expert in data integration functions.
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts and stakeholders to evaluate user requirements and support the application development and data needs.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts, processes, and solutions effectively to technical staff, non-technical users, vendors, and other state organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Five (5) years of experience as a Database Administrator- Senior role
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Management software, Visual Studio, and Team Foundation Server
  • Knowledge of database design principles, data modeling, data warehousing concepts
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and reporting tools Tableau and Workiva/Wdata
  • Solid problem-solving skills with a proven ability to manage and troubleshoot complex database, application, and data integrity issues.
  • Skill in analyzing technical requirements and implementing effective database and application solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business and technical needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
