Job Description
The Engineer V, Configuration is a senior technical contributor responsible for leading configuration management activities that ensure the integrity, accuracy, and traceability of X-energy's engineering and product baselines. This role safeguards the organization's configuration source of truth by reviewing and controlling changes to hardware and software, maintaining accurate configuration status records, and ensuring alignment between approved designs, manufacturing outputs, and quality expectations. The Engineer V, Configuration serves as a key connector across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to support disciplined change management, full traceability, and continuous improvement of configuration processes and tools.
Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:
  • Review and manage proposed changes to hardware and software to ensure all updates are properly evaluated, approved, documented, and incorporated into the controlled configuration baseline.
  • Maintain configuration status accounting records, including the master list of parts, versions, and revisions, to ensure that released and built configurations remain aligned with approved engineering documentation.
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve the configuration source of truth across multiple projects by reviewing historical configuration data, resolving inconsistencies, and standardizing controlled records.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions to ensure teams are working from the correct, current, and approved design information.
  • Manage part traceability, including serial number and lot number tracking, to support complete component identification and lifecycle traceability across products and projects.
  • Evaluate the impact of proposed changes on downstream documentation, manufacturing readiness, quality records, and configuration integrity.
  • Support configuration audits, status reviews, and internal assessments by preparing accurate records, identifying gaps, and driving resolution of discrepancies.
  • Develop, implement, and refine digital tools, databases, and workflow processes that improve the efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility of configuration data.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen configuration management practices, reduce manual effort, and improve visibility into design, build, and release status.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve configuration issues, support change control decisions, and maintain disciplined adherence to configuration management procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance on configuration requirements, records management, and traceability expectations to project teams and functional partners.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of engineering, product configuration, and project execution needs.

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Typically requires 15+ years of progressive experience in configuration management, engineering change control, document control, product data management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience managing configuration records, engineering changes, and traceability data in a complex technical environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering and understanding of the product life cycle.
  • Strong understanding of configuration management principles, including baselines, change control, status accounting, and traceability.
  • Experience reviewing technical data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency across engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions.
  • Ability to interpret and reconcile historical configuration information across multiple projects or product lines.
  • Experience working in highly regulated or controlled environments, preferably within nuclear, aerospace, defense, energy, or advanced manufacturing industries.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and data integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using digital tools, databases, or enterprise systems to manage configuration data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience implementing or improving configuration management systems, databases, or digital workflows.
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), or other engineering data management systems.
  • Experience supporting traceability, serialization, and lot control in a complex manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Prior experience in the nuclear or advanced technology industries.
  • Experience leading configuration audits, data cleansing efforts, or process improvement initiatives.

Work Site Expectations: 4-5 days in office
Travel Expectations: Up to 10% as needed for project assignment
Hours: Standard office hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm ET, Monday - Friday
Compensation
As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.). Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them. Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions. Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives.
Offers within the posted salary range are commensurate with the individual's qualifications for the position, along with a view on internal equity, market data, and room for growth. The salary range for this position is:
$185,000 - $210,000
