What is a real estate recruiter?

A real estate recruiter is responsible for seeking out and recruiting new agents to join a real estate team. Depending on the needs of the real estate company, your responsibilities in this career may include finding candidates to fill a variety of positions in the company, such as a mortgage professional. A real estate recruiter may meet one-on-one with a candidate, attend events like real estate mixers and open houses, or take advantage of other lead sources. You should follow the company’s prospecting systems during the recruitment process and utilize any services that can help you find the best candidates. Once you connect with ideal candidates through phone calls or emails, your duties may include reviewing the candidate’s backgrounds before referring them to a hiring manager. Sometimes real estate recruiters are responsible for checking out competitor offerings to determine a salary for prospective employees.

Employer & Industry UsageReal estate brokerages, staffing agenciesReal estate brokerages, independent practice
Search & Comparison IntentRecruitment, hiring, staffingBuying, selling, property management

While both roles operate within the real estate industry, a Real Estate Recruiter focuses on sourcing and hiring real estate professionals, whereas a Real Estate Agent assists clients with buying, selling, or leasing properties. The recruiter works primarily in staffing and recruitment environments, while agents are client-facing sales professionals. Understanding these differences helps job seekers and employers find the right fit for their needs.

What does a real estate recruiter do?

A Real Estate Recruiter is responsible for finding, interviewing, and hiring new real estate agents or professionals for a real estate agency or brokerage. They develop and implement strategies to attract top talent, screen candidates, and ensure they fit the company's culture and goals. Recruiters often network, attend industry events, and use various platforms to connect with potential candidates. Their role is crucial in building a strong sales team that drives the company's growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a real estate recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Real Estate Recruiter, you need strong interpersonal skills, a solid understanding of the real estate industry, and experience in talent acquisition or human resources. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), CRM software, and platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter is typically required. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills help recruiters attract and retain top real estate talent. These abilities ensure you can efficiently identify, engage, and secure skilled professionals who drive a real estate company's success.

How do real estate recruiters get paid?

Real estate recruiters typically earn commissions or fees based on successful placements, often receiving a percentage of the new agent's first-year earnings or a flat fee. Some recruiters work on retainer or hourly basis, especially in executive or specialized placements, and may also charge clients or candidates directly depending on the arrangement.

What are some common challenges real estate recruiters face when sourcing top agents, and how can these be addressed?

Real Estate Recruiters often encounter challenges such as high competition for experienced agents, limited talent pools in certain markets, and difficulties in assessing cultural fit. To address these, recruiters can leverage networking, maintain strong relationships with industry professionals, and use targeted outreach strategies. Additionally, utilizing technology like applicant tracking systems and social media platforms can help expand reach and streamline the selection process.
